My cat is unhappy with my baby
Hi folks, looking for a bit of advice here and wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation.
I have 3 cats and a 7 month old. Two of my cats have taken to the baby okay, my eldest girl absolutely adores her and they are the best of friends. My middle boy is fairly indifferent, he doesn't take much notice of her, but my youngest girl hasn't been herself since the baby came along. She hardly comes in the house, whereas before she was practically a housecat and just seems sad all the time. I love her to bits. She's incredibly affectionate, extremely intelligent and such good company, but sadly I'm starting to think it would be fairer to rehome her. Do you think it would be the right thing to do? Or should I wait a little longer to see if things improve? Has anyone had experience of cats with a new baby? Have you ever had to make the difficult decision to rehome a much loved pet? Thanks in advance. |

I would be inclined to give it time and make an effort to interact with all the cats as before especially with the youngest cat. I hope that things work out.

Have you thought about putting the baby up for adoption?

Don't worry, I'm sure your cat will come around, give her some time, interact with her when you can and congratulations on having your baby.

Don't reject your poor little cat. She used to be your baby and now she has lost her place. Always give her specially nice food or treats when the baby is around. Get her onto the sofa before you nurse the baby, then sit beside her with the baby, so that she can snuggle up and be petted while you're sitting there. If she's around when you're changing nappies or busy, make a point of speaking lovingly to her.. The baby will soon be running around and pussy will be back where she likes to be.

Thanks for the advice, I'll keep hold of her for now and see how things pan out over the next few months.

Cats are definitely 2nd class citizens where your baby is concerned.
However, make some high places where the cat can escape to when the kid gets to moving about. |
