So agree. Gutted Ed & Katya will no longer be in the show but I do agree it was his time to go.

For all of Ed's technical weaknesses and dance limitations the admiration I have for him is immense.
He fully committed himself to both the spirit and performance of every dance. And entertainment value wise he imo is the best there has ever been on SCD.
He and Katya tried their utmost to execute as much content as possible. Ok so it was not the height of technical mastery but he fully engaged in every style of dance required of him. He took the process seriously but also had a laugh and a lot of fun at the same time.
For me he struck the perfect balance.
From a dance technique point of view he could have gone out weeks ago but he defied exit through capturing the spirit of every dance in a remarkable fashion.
Of all the 'entertainer' type celebs to have competed I would say Ed is the one I have appreciated the most.
His dignity in exit is superceded only by his honesty of endeavour and I thank him for that. He should absolutely walk away with his head held high.
Well done Sir.

Ditto! I had a tear in my eye at the end. What a nice man Ed is. I hope he'll go on the Strictly Tour.

Well he would have been toast then anyway.

At least this way the Judge might stay in and upset the apple cart for the "chosen ones"

A brilliant post and I agree with you totally. He has made the show this year and he'll be remembered for that ( for all the right reasons!)

I actually thought Ed and Katya were better than Judge Rinder and Oksana in the DO but Ed was a gonna regardless.
I shed a tear on their leaving. Well done to the pair of them.

Which makes a mockery of the dance off and qualifies what Darcey said to Chris Evans then, if he really was better than Rob.

Yes lovely post. I must admit Katya made me cry before the dance off and they were both lovely at the end. I will miss them.

I think the end of the show was the most genuine moment on tv for some time - the joy they had at dancing (even if he wasn't that great at it), the real respect Ed and Katya had for each other and the realisation that they weren't going to dance together again, and the affection that the other contestants obviously had for him.

If anyone had told me I would have had a lump in my throat at Ed Balls leaving Strictly even half and hour ago I would have laughed at them

Just goes to show the best moments can't be scripted - even in reality tv, real emotion will win every time!

Absolutely.
I shall miss them very much.
Oh dear, next week they won't be there.

Except I doubt he was. Rinder had the harder dance and didn't do too bad a job at it.

However, I've had some proper laugh out loud moments with Ed and Katya, they were good tv.

Is it allowed to say things like that?

I got pulled up because I made a remark about something Louise said.

I loved watching Ed and Katya. He brought something to SCD - I'm not sure what it was but it was great. His timing was always good too.
He brought humility humour and gratitude for what he was offered. He made this series for me and now that he's gone I really don't care who wins. I also miss Lesley who went too soon. What a trouper.

I didn't watch the show tonight but did look at the last few minutes. Very touching and what a lovely reaction they both got. It was their time to go, but it's sad. (And I never thought I would have liked Ed!).

I have to admit I'm glad to have been spared that.

Nevertheless I think he's the best "worst dancer" Strictly have had. I've not enjoyed his performances as much as others clearly have, but he's worked hard and done his very best and should be respected for that.

I loved Ed's effort and improvement. He was a joy to watch. He wasn't the standard of the others but from a starting point, his improvement was amazing.

I bet Kat was gutted when she got Ed and must have thought her first Strictly would end at the first opportunity but she worked hard on him and he embraced it.

Thank you Ed and Katya, you were true Strictly stars this year!

My friend just rung me and said she was crying. Well I said I was not going to tell you but I am wiping tears away also. Really warmed to Ed & Katya and will miss them. Feel silly crying lol
Silly or not. You're not the only ones.
Had tears in my eyes too. What a lovely relationship they had! It was probably time for Ed to go, but I feel Strictly will be much less watchable without them.
