I'm really surprised that we haven't had at least a couple of new characters by now. It's unlikely that we will get any new main characters before Xmas.

It seems they are having to make use of guest characters such as Derek, Geraldine and Libby to make up the numbers.

Once Ronnie, Roxy, Linda Lee and Babe go and Ian and Phil take their annual breaks too the shows going to be really small.

Unlikely to get any BBC cuts mean they had to scale down the cast hence the amount of axings

They would have got rid of the more expensive cast members if that was the case.

They blew the budget on Derek Harkinson. No surprise really, the public have been demanding his return for years.

The only hope I have with SOC is that he is taking time with newbies to ensure he gets it right so isn't rushing into anything. Whether there will be any viewers left by the time he has got it right is another question entirely.

The ratings are a bit like opinion polls not entirely sure they are believable or right or in the multi-media world truly matter

They may not be accurate but they do at least show some people are still watching.

I wouldn't get your hopes up Aaron if he considers the likes of Geraldine and Derek an asset to the show.

Why don't they give a part to Shrimpy or one of the binmen? Recruiting from within would be better.

I'm starting to think we won't get any, SOC seem's to prefer introducing more character's with smaller parts like Denise's teacher, Oz and worker's in the call centre funeral parlor and in the garage. the market also seem's busier.

I like the fact Derek is back. Patrick desperately needs a mate to knock about with. I also think Kathy would benefit to having a platonic friendship with a man.

Im also looking forward to seeing Derek interact with the fowlers. He was close ti Martin.

I also like having an older gay character in the show

I don't mind Derek but he's never going to set the screen alight. He's as boring as Buster. The big guys taste in characters worries me a tad.

I wouldn't be surprise if characters like Minty return.

Or god forbid Minty and Garry return together?

I don't especially want new characters right now. Not that I want old characters brought back either. I think the cast is fine as it is.

We are going to be down to 30 main characters soon. EE wont cope with that small a cast.

If Geraldine Trotter is an indication of the kind of characters we'll be getting then I'm fine with the cast as it is

Personally I think what EE is missing right now is a Mixed Race Jewish, Cross-Dressing, Bi-Sexual, Partially Blind, Cannibalistic, Porn-obsessed male character.

It would tick a lot of boxes all at once and save you the trouble of having to introduce anymore new characters for a long time. Certainly it would provide the show with some diversity.
