That's the one! Yeah, apparently he's a comedian.
No. He IS a comedian, that is a fact set in stone.

Is he funny when he's on stage?

That would depend on your sense of humour.

Some people too sensitive for his type of humour clearly.
Hes been one of the nicest to martin in there. Hes a nice guy , certain ways he comes across to some is just his dry humour.

All of then are in there for money and/or boosting their profiles. Joel got the joint lowest payday if papers are to believed , hes made the final 4 and earned more of his pay cheque than the likes of danny.

I like Joel too, such a beautiful smile Agree that he's not "laugh a minute hilarious" but thats one of the things I like, his humour is understated.

I hope Joel's presenting career takes off after this show. I don't think he's a great stand-up comedian. He's been wasted there.

He is, definitely. I don't believe he likes anyone in there (which is fine) but his pretence is grating while, as someone mentioned upstream, he's a smiling assassin.
Yep. ^^

Not only that, good guys are not "rare". I know loads of good guys, who would not grin inanely and follow like sheep to be popular.

How thin can we split those hairs.
Well, okay then.

If I'm being honest I don't think he sounds at all like James Blunt. Joel almost sounds Australian at times.

And that's a problem, why, EXACTLY?
It's not that it's a problem, it's as the poster you're replying to you said, it tells you something.
From that you could take it that if raising his profile is his priority and it's a career move, then I would be skeptical as to how much of the real Joel I'm seeing.

Absolutely. As for the poster who said he said he was in there to raise his profile.

Oh shock horror, the others are obviously purely there to entertain us. Now they are the real selfless ones.
I think you're overreacting to the comment. It isn't a 'shock horror' situation, it's just a question mark over his head about how superficial he's being in what is after all a reality show. That's all.
So when people say that he's coming across so well, that he's so lovely, and apparently nice guys are such a rarity, why wouldn't you question how much of that comes from his true self, and how much comes from him seeking to appear agreeable to the public with one eye on a potential career?

It's a fair question as far as I'm concerned. Especially since this year so many of them have chosen to keep their heads down and their noses clean, with hardly any of them taking risks and being so careful in front of the cameras.
Although I don't like Larry I respect and appreciate him for allowing himself to show a not too pleasant side. That's better than hiding behind a smile because at least you'd imagine it wouldn't be something he'd want to actively pretend to be like if it wasn't really him.

It's his eyes that get me. He appears to have a constant staring gaze. like he has glass eyes or something. You can see it in the opening titles when he turns around. He could be one of the undead.

Joel put a stand up date on in Stafford in the middle of last week and it had sold out by Saturday so he's obviously making people laugh.

He's very sensible - he saves the laughs for when he's on stage. No point in wasting material.

It is when you're singling him out implying that he is being disingenuous in his "niceness".
90% of ordinary people - not just celebrities and not just the celebrities on this particular series - would not show a warts and all side to their personality and would try to be polite and on their "best bebaviour" . That does not make them false.

On these reality shows you do get SOME people who do not give a damn and behave in any fashion they see fit. I would, maybe rather simplistically, place them into two catergories:

Your genuine "I don't give a damners" who have no problem saying it like it is and using any language or behaviour to do so. I would place Larry in this category. I don't really respect him for this. Telling someone to give it a rest is one thing but taking it to extremes in the way he did was unnecessary particularly in his attempted ostracisation of Martin.
He also doesn't have to worry about raising his profile. It''s doing quite nicely and, who knows, he is of an age where he may fancy retirement now. Not so Joel or most of them there.

The other category is even worse - your fame hungry, I'm mad I am, look at me and my disgusting behaviour type e.g. Bear (say no more).

I believe in this topsy turvy, life is unfair world we live in Joel would have more success emulating the second category instead of "pretending" to be nice to raise his profile.

That seems to work better.

Just watched a few clips of him on UTube. Not great.
He doesn't seem to have found his style yet, from what I saw.
Seems to be shifting all over and, weirdly, in one bit from last
year seemed to channel James Acaster in his delivery.
Still, comedy is a craft and can be learned with work.
Maybe one day.

Has anybody seen Joel act in anything? Is he good at it?
He was in a few episodes of Skins and an episode of Casualty playing characters, although he did have to 'act' on the many dares to the public his challengers set for him on Impractical Jokers when BBC Three was still broadcasting. Some of those dares really made me wince and cringe with embarrassment.
