CS: Norris's flat living arrangements !
FusionFury

So he's prepared to live like a squatter in his own flat to get 2 rents.. At his age too !

It's hilarious !

Doesn't he own Emily's house? That's a 3 or 4 bed terrace on the street isn't it? No need to live like a squatter.

Its a standard two up two down house

He could easily put a bed into the front room beside the piano , Sean's bedroom in Eileen's house was only the front room too as Norris said

They should start beefing up the structural design of those houses. I beams to spread the weight load and floor joists doubled up to stop the floors collapsing under the extra weight of all the doubling up in the rooms. And get rid of that piano. It must weigh a ton. A killer If that goes through the floor into the cellar that they don't know they have.

Norris should move into Ken's Tardis, number 1
it currently houses:

Ken
Tracy
Amy
Peter
Adam
Daniel
& Simon (occasionally)

The way the internal sets are we only ever see the dining room and kitchen of the properties. Each of the terraces also has an unseen front room that the characters don't ever seem to use. Dev's house and Kirk and Beth's being the exceptions where the wall has been knocked through to create a larger open plan living and dining room. In the Barlows the mysterious front room was said to be Blanche's bedroom and at Eileen it was Sean's bedroom. Norris has suggested using his unseen front room as an extra bedroom as well in order to take in a second lodger.

Nope he said he was more than happy to squish in there beside the piano if it was going to allow for two lodgers paying him extortionate rent.

Using the front parlour as a bedroom started in the early 80s when Deirdre and Tracy moved in with Ken and Uncle Albert. Uncle Albert gave him room over to the newlyweds so that Tracy could have a room of her own. Uncle Albert then slept in the front parlour which was converted into a bedroom for him.

The only front room that we used to see regularly was No.13. Why this appeared more than any of the others is a mystery, but it made regular appearances right through the 70s, 80s with the Ogdens and even into the 90s and early 2000s when the Websters lived there.

To be fair, if Emily isn't coming back - which seems likely - surely the piano would be far better with someone who'd actually use it or appreciate it than sat bone idle in the house? Also did Emily ever get it tuned regularly since Ernest died - no, it's probably knackered.

We need to start preparing for the houses with older characters in to belong to other people, otherwise you end up with the shrine to Jack and Vera situation.

Actually, Emily's front room used to be seen quite regularly some years ago, it contained a piano , a sofa and other ancient furniture.
Can always remember Kevin and Sally's front room at No. 13, it seemed to be a sort of TV room , as they went through there to watch the telly! There was a hatch on the wall behind the sofa where things were passed through.

Oh My God Yes!! I remember the Websters front room, it was really tastefully decorated and the hatch to the dining room had lovely white venetian shutters covering it!

Sally always kept an immaculate home, but it's hard to imagine her in one of the terraces now!! She really does belong on the other side of the street! I'm flabbergasted though that she hasn't changed that manky sunflower wallpaper in her dining room! Ashley and Claire put that up after the fire.

Thank goodness someone else remembers the hatch with the nice white shutters.

Think it's still there, I'm positive I saw it when Lloyd lived there with Cheryl ( think that was her name), although we never see inside Kevin's house these days.

The serving hatch is an heirloom passed down from the Ogdens. Stan built it for Hilda in 1971 but used plans for a catering-sized serving hatch so it was absolutely massive. Hilda also pointed out to Stan that since the kitchen and dining room were next to each other, they had no reason to use the serving hatch to link the back and front rooms

Interestingly, the serving hatch appeared to survive No.13 being completely gutted by fire after the tram crash

But weirdly Todd slept in the front room of No 11 and Sean on the sofa in the middle room back in 2004, I remember because in the episode he leaves you see him in there. That was slightly more realistic because then the two upstairs bedrooms were for Eileen and Jason (+Sarah )

If it makes it any easier I'll let it stay there until Dev needs to do some more renovating. When he hires that dumpster and puts it on the street out it goes, unless Norris can give it a schoolin' and play great balls of fire I have no alternative but to get rid of it.
