Good on Clean Bandit not taking any notice of Dermot

I liked how, when asked who you would like to collaborate with, and Dermot said " You say Honey, I say G", the main singer just replied and said "I really like Saara". I'm not sure if Dermot was expecting that answer, but I'm glad she said what she wanted to say and not what the producers clearly wanted them to say.

Clean Bandit and their new song:

Three Cambridge graduates' take on the trials and tribulations of impoverished single motherhood, while the odd cellist one does excruiciating white-girl dancing to Shaggy in the video.

I'm not sure of what relevance this has within the thread?

Clean Bandit performed on the X Factor, so it's relevant enough. Or does every post have to stick literally to the OP?

They're brilliantly talented, probably the best guest performers of the series tbh, and I'm not even a fan of that song, they have much stronger material. But yes I'm glad that Grace didn't give a ridiculously contrived answer.

I never see this remarked upon but it's so true! She's a strange woman... never can tell what emotion she's feeling.

She definitely wants to be the frontwoman of the group, you can tell that much.

I don't think the producers are back stage with their heads in their hands annoyed that they didn't mention Honey G. They likely don't care at all and I suspect it highly unlikely that they would have been told what to say and then 'stuck to the man' as it were.

Is that a comment on the middle class nature of modern pop music and why it is so unchallenging?

I actually thought they seemed more Eurovision than I was expecting.

The only difference between Clean Bandit and so many other producer/instrumentalist groups is that there is one female with the boys. It's snowflake generation music, geeks with toys and the regulation feat. female singer and rent a rapper. A computer could produce this music, probably does.

Perhaps - I just find it amusing that the subject matter of their song ('Rockabye') is so jarringly based on what they've listened to rather than experienced (terrible video too). In fact it's a direct rip of 'What would you do?' by City High, which they're about the right age to remember from their teens.

Also regarding fronting the band - I don't think they have anyone who can sing so have to hire guest singers, otherwise they start to look like Bond with a mixing deck.

I must check out the City High thing.

I agree about the way they look. I watched Chase and Status, they don't have the female cellist but they looked like two guys doing the dishes behind the hot female singer.
The music of these bands just sounds so limp and effectual.

To be fair, Clean Bandit have produced one or two very catchy dance singles, but this is a bit of a lifeless effort

I just assumed Dermot was referring to Sean Paul as he is a rapper but at least he didn't take any notice. Nice wee group and a catchy song.

If you watch it again, basically Dermot said Honey G's catchphrase almost under his breath and very quickly, and she just didn't hear it while she was busy processing an answer to his question. She didn't make some kind of deliberate snub to his suggestion IMO.

Yeah, their song was very catchy. I was quite enjoying listening to it.
