There's speculation that E4 HD may be going FTA, this would be ideal for Channel 4 to get it on Freeview in peak time until more space becomes available.
I agree. When searching for the ITV variants, it's difficult because they're all now labeled as 'ITV', which tells you did all! Perhaps this was done to discourage people from watching a region other than their own. When searching for channels manually, is the label shown what ends up being shown on the EPG? Ie is it the same data? Wales has its own region labelled as does Border England but that is it - even Border Scotland is labelled "ITV", and Border HD is labelled "ITV HD" - again very confusing. The EPG data does show correct info but for local news in West country for example, there are two programmes withe the same synopsis in both regions even though they are different! |

I see what you mean. The same approach STV took would be fine of course. I suspect what will happen is that there will be no swap in England until all the sub-regions are in HD. However, yes there is no reason why London and Granada at least cold swap already. All the others have different sub-regions.

It becomes a nightmare trying to organise publicity etc. - I suspect it will cost a lot of money with EPG fees too.
If it was easy then they would have done it - along with the BBC. Don't forget - the Sky Apps do not handle HD/SD swapping correctly yet. Premier Sports SD/HD are wrong for subscribers, so are the BT Sport channels. So god knows what you'll end up with trying to record ITV from the apps. The only reason ITV regions are not HD swapped where possible is because so far ITV has not chosen to do so. |

It is the sub-regions that need to change to HD first or it gets confusing.
So which channel number would find my local news? In the EPG there is no difference in the EPG, synopsis or even the presenters of the local news programmes in SD and HD - yet the news stories are different regions. For me 103 and 178 are identical, just one is SD and the other is HD. |

As I say, for now they should switch the regions that have an identical HD variant. Such as Granada.
For me 103 and 178 are identical, just one is SD and the other is HD. ITV have the capacity to launch another six HD regions right now but so far haven't done so. Obviously Erricson will charge engineering costs to make the rest of what's left HD at Playout so maybe that's a factor too. |

Scotland, Wales and NI are nations - not regions. So everybody in that country is the same - they all get their local news on 101/103. I'm not arguing as I said before - I don't care as ITV local news is usually not local here - so is rarely watched. My point about BT and Premier is that Sky have not yet been able to get the HD/SD swapping to work - so perhaps ITV/BBC would have the same problem. If you subscribe to BT Sport HD or Premier Sport HD - the Sky apps have never pointed to the correct channel numbers. They swap in the Sky box but not on the apps. Quote:
As ITV Wales HD is already swapped at 103 (probably because BBC One Wales HD was already swapped at 101) that largely blows that argument up. The BBC have done it also for Scotland and Northern Ireland and UTV and STV (in Central Scotland) have done it as well. ITV hardly ever refers to 103 or 178 in its publicity etc. If you subscribe to BT Sport HD then the swap arrangement applies - I think that is also the case with Premier Sport HD subscribers. It is only non subscribers who do not have the channels "swapped".
The only reason ITV regions are not HD swapped where possible is because so far ITV has not chosen to do so. |

Perhaps it the advertising team that doesn't want to change?? But I don't see why everybody is getting upset it hasn't moved. I'm not arguing that they should move - but then I don't see why they should. There is no direct entry to the Guide on SkyQ - so perhaps the logical numbers are becoming less important?? Quote:
STV is two different regions, with several different sub-regions. They have successfully implemented the HD swap in the sub-region that has HD, while keeping SD on 103 for everyone else, proving it can be done.

ID (Investigation Discovery) moved from the Factual genre to the Entertainment genre on Virgin Media's EPG this week.
I don't like the move personally, but are there any signs that it is to make a similar move on the Sky EPG? To enable it to happen on Virgin Media it displaced DMAX, so in theory the same could happen on Sky. |
