The only way you know is knowing which sID number you are tuned to - all ITVs are labelled "ITV" etc. All ITV HDs are labelled ITV HD - with no idea what regiion is what - again very unhelpful.

Wales has its own region labelled as does Border England but that is it - even Border Scotland is labelled "ITV", and Border HD is labelled "ITV HD" - again very confusing.

The EPG data does show correct info but for local news in West country for example, there are two programmes withe the same synopsis in both regions even though they are different!
Now Border Scotland playing silly beggars with this generic ITV labeling thing does surprise me.

As the only truly independent part of Channel 3 left, I had assumed that they would proudly display their name!

Border is owned by ITV plc.

STV is the remaining independent region.

Thanks, I was getting them both mixed up.

Does STV say STV or ITV when people try to tune it in and on the EPG?

The service label for all 4 is "STV". They are all on 10.906 V. The order is North, West, East, Tayside.

Hope that helps.

I realise that was a tongue in cheek remark. However, that was because of a breach of the rules by some members - I think we should now forget abut that and move on - please!

I think these may become Made In Liverpool and Made In Birmingham. They are showing Colour bars with red bottom border

Thanks Jimbo, it will be helpful as i'm going to try and tune in STV on my Freesat box.

I'm interested to see how different they run the channel as an independent (STV isn't available via VM in my area).

I think that my cabling needs replacing as I can't pick up all the frequencies.

If it helps, there is a full list of tuning frequencies for any channel that may need to be manually tuned at the following link.

https://www.tvchannellists.com/List_...#Manual_tuning

Not all channels listed need to be tuned in manually in all regions. But all need to be manually tuned in at least one.

I don't understand the reluctance to properly identify the ITV regions after all there is no problem with the BBC regions. Obviously if you are using a generic FTA receiver such as a Spiderbox or a Technomate then there is no problem. Using the menus you can identify the PIDs and compare them on the Lyngsat chart and manually name the channels although a little time consuming. Alternatively you can always wait until the local news programmes come on at 6.00p.m and work from there, after all names such as Anglia, Meridian and Granada continue to be used when referring to local news programmes. Of course the main problem as always is with the Sky boxes from the early days with the standard Sky box right up to the Sky Q box. Very user unfriendly when trying to view any channels in the Add channels section not on the EPG. No facility to identify the channel using PIDs and no ability to manually name channels. I really cannot see what the problem would be if ITV for example in the North West on 103,178 and 131 was labelled ITV Granada or ITV HD Granada or ITV+1 Granada with the same applying to the other ITV regions. Some channels seem quite happy to change their name albeit for a week or two when their really is no need. Sky Sports 2 becoming Sky Ashes, True Movies becoming True Christmas, Sky Action becoming Sky OO7, so presumably it does not present any difficulty or cause any additional expense .

They used to label them like this when they first went live, apart from when they were testing. Whilst testing they used on screen blocks to identify which region it was.

I can only think that it's to discourage people from tuning in and watching the 'wrong' region to appease the advertisers.

Perhaps this came about when Freesat started, as I bet most people wouldn't know or bother about the off EPG ITV regions until the advent of being able to easily tune them in via non Freesat mode.

Because ITV want their channel to be known as ITV, not "ITV One E&W/Yks"

it's odd how they've kept the name 'ITV Border' on the EPG for viewers in the English half of the region, making it the only English region to retain the former local name on the EPG. Border Scotland is just 'ITV' too.

I thought ABC in the US renaming ABC Family to freeForm was a daft rebrand. B3 is even worse!

Rediclous name no connection to Virgin Media who bought the channel. I thought Virgin would at least have V in the name.

It's meant to be a sister channel to TV3, which should be a more prominent and more recognisable name than Virgin Media.

So....what stopped them calling it TV3 Ireland? TV3 Plus?
B3 hardly says its even remotely related to TV3. It looks more like someone slipped on a keyboard while a little drunk or remembered their plane seat number!

I find it annoying that TV3/Virgin Media were allowed purchase Utv Ireland. Their Tv3 channel is ok, not the best and their presenters are not the best, they have a Tv3 +1 on Sky, they have 3E which is more or less repeats of Tv3, now they have Utv Ireland, what they going do with that seeing they run repeats so much on channels they already have. They trying turn into the Sky of Ireland, have the monopoly on everything here. It wont make much difference what they call it tbh.

TV3 is already an Irish channel, so a second channel called 'TV3 Ireland' would be even more confusing and less suitable.

AIUI they bought UTV Ireland precisely because it had an agreement to access all of ITV's programming - just like TV3 used to have before ITV took those rights back to launch UTV Ireland. So what they'll do with it is show more programmes that they've not had access to recently, meaning less repeats.
