Why is the winners song always terrible ?

It's just one mediocre song after another. Surely it's not that hard to do a good song

Did I read somewhere that Gary Barlow has written the winners song this year?

Why don't they ever release a Christmas song as the winners single (preferably an original) at least then it has a slight chance of getting airplay on an annual basis.

Ed Sheehan has written it I think. Bet he's glad Honey G is out

It's an original song written by Ed Sheeran which is described as an acoustic ballad. Cowell doesn't want a repeat of last year's embarrassing flop. 5 After Midnight have a different song from the rest, no surprise after hearing their singing attempt in the sing-off on Sunday. Like last year in the final, the winner's song exposed Reggie 'N' Bollie's extremely weak vocals. 5 After Midnight's song contains the word "Christmas". Not known whether it's an original or a cover. The acts have already recorded the song.

So Matt, Saara and Emily have recorded the same song

Thank you I predict two of Saara & Matt/Emily will be the Final 2 so will be interesting to see them singing the same song like last year final 2 did.

Well if you call Hallelujah, written by one of the greatest poets of the last fifty years then I suppose everything must be rubbish. Do not defame the name of the late great Leonard Cohen.

That was the best X Factor winner's song, imo. Sung beautify by Alexandra.

It won't even have a CD release this year so that will surely affect it's chart position. Should be on sale in all supermarkets.

Who buys Physical Singles now, I'm sure the last one to be released was Louisa's last year?

Hallelujah is an overplayed song which makes any song lose it's impact imo.

I wholly agree.

I really don't understand why they can't go with something more upbeat for the winner's song - something that feels celebratory rather than dreary.

A good example of a strong winner's singles below:

I'm not usually a fan of cover songs but James Arthur's version of 'Impossible' is my absolute favourite winners single and its the only one I like far more than the original. Alexandra's version of 'Hallelujah' would be in second place.

I do agree that it would be nice to have an uptempo song for a change but sadly I can't see it happening at this stage.
