Well done Melvin and Janette.

We also don't know what dance he did on the Christmas Special, it might be one that really suited him or required less obvious technique (no-one on a Christmas Special is going to care if a Charleston has perfect swivel, for example), plus of course it's audience vote.
I'm guessing it's a Charleston because Janette seems to always score highly on those.

Chris Hollins and Iveta's Christmas Special Charleston got a 7 from Craig.
I can't see Craig giving out a 10 unless Melvin's dance was excellent, Christmas or no Christmas.

Whatever his dance I think it must fall into the "one that really suited him" option.

I find this really baffling. They line up four of their best runners-up of all time, and have them beaten by a first boot who showed no real ability whatsoever. These are people who went through three months of intense dance training with the pros the show provided, got multiple 10s, and all came within fingertips of winning, in the case of Frankie quite recently, and now they have them all tonked by someone who was on the show for barely two weeks and was crap. It makes the whole show just look incredibly random and blows the whole "journey" thing apart.

I get that it's for Christmas but it just seems dumb. It undermines the show to be honest. Good for Melvin though I guess. I'll wait and see if I think he deserved it.
Maybe Denise, Pamela and Gethin haven't done any dancing since they were on though, which is a long time ago. Perhaps Melvin has been working his socks off since going out to do this and scrape back a bit of his Strictly dream, and they just turned up for a couple of rehearsals. They haven't done any dancing as far as we know for years have them? Frankie obviously did a great dance as you'd expect but perhaps it was less crowd pleasing or less unexpected. And Ainsley isn't a better dancer than Melvin.

I don't know - I mustn't build it up as the best dance ever in my head now! I just really hope QuadP is for real (no offence intended QuadP) because Melvin got rotten music and props for both dances and was clearly really nervous and so many people just wrote him off as crap and that never really felt fair to me.

I think they've all since done the tour as well though.

I thought Denise might have won, especially as she was so good at ballroom and partnering Anton. She seems to be chronically unpopular with Strictly voters.

Over the moon for Melvin after he left the series so early this year. Many thanks also to our Christmas mole and "little helpers" as always 🙂

Melvin was absolutely incredible, he really deserved it. It wasn't a pity win at all, he was by far the best dance!

Thanks for sharing that QuadP - am so pleased he won clearly by being the best

And he beat the people's prince Ainsley Harriott.
That is my only sadness

I'm surprised Neil Jones didn't have a partner. Maybe he's injured or something.

Thanks for the spoiler! And I'm very happy for Gorka - he's gotta be back next year! And hopefully on the tour, even if Tameka isn't. Maybe with Lesley?

Have they? I didn't know that. Recently?

Looking forward to seeing how he did it

Thanks for this. great result that Melvin won. On the credits (or whatever those beginning moves and poses are called} it shows what good rhythm he has. On the strength of that I have continually felt sad at his early departure.
show will be great to watch.

From ITT - dances are as follows:

Melvin & Janette - Charleston (to a song from Elf)
Ainsley & Karen - Jive (to Rockin Around the Christmas Tree)
Pamela & Pasha - Cha Cha Cha (to a song that was in the movie Love Actually)
Gorka & Frankie - American Smooth (to Let it Go from Frozen)
Gethin & Chloe - Quickstep (something from The Polar Express)

Anton wasn't part of the interview so we don't know which dance he and Denise did, or the movie their dance was themed on. Presumably it was ballroom to balance things out?

Hold on, come again, Melvin has won the Christmas Special?!! How did that happen?

He was useless in the main show and deservedly first out, he can't have improved that much in a couple of months! It's a Christmas miracle!

I think some people seem to be exaggerating how bad Melvin was in the main series. He had a couple of dodgy themes and his technique wasn't perfect, but he had rhythm, confidence with performance and knew all his steps - he wasn't stumbling around like Quentin Wilson. I don't think he was deservedly first out - there were a few who were worse than him at that point. I'm not surprised he and Janette pulled off a good charleston.

Getting Melvin on the Christmas show to do a Charleston plus some of the odd bits they have done on ITT, was possibly part of the negotiations that went on behind the scenes over his exit.

Once on the Christmas show it was up to them how well they did.

Their too fast, off theme tune beat, hip swinging on the credits for the main show is still irritating.

Well I never! 2016 - the year of anomalies.
Well if Leicester can win the Premier League, Trump can win the US Election then Melvin can win the Xmas Special.
And with that in mind, Rinder to win Strictly

I'm surprised at the winner, thought it would be out of Gethin, Denise and Frankie

The Charleston is quite different from the other dances and so perhaps it is not so surprising after all. Anyway, I'm pleased he won.

She was great but age does take it's toll on us all. She still seemed to be really good but not as good and some people have probably forgotten who she was by now.

Why bump this when there is a thread discussing the Christmas show and the result?
