A couple of years ago EastEnders was genuinely exciting and I looked forward to the next episode. Even at the start of this year there was always something good going on.
Now, it's just a bit boring isn't it? A-stories watered down to tedium while C-stories take up the bulk of the episodes. These episodes may have worked wonderfully about thirty years ago, but not today. |

As soon as SOC took over I found myself missing episodes and not caring, whereas before I would make sure I saw them in Catch Up.
Sick of the bins, the darts and endless Carmel scenes. It just doesn't seem realistic anymore; I'm constantly reminded that they're acting. It feels more like theatre than TV drama. |

Well said, although it's been like this for a bit now.
The last time I noticed that was the Lorraine Newman era. |

I only see the production once in a blue moon if the partner has it on and from what I see it's a mess, it's clear again that the production team has no clue where they want the show to go, I see no coherent story plan but I do see lots of incompetent deadwood mumbling their badly written lines poorly. The show has lurched from one mess to another since the live 25th episode not helped by a string of EP failures, Kirkwood should never have been hired, Newman should have stayed a Tea lady/secretary because her skills as EP were non existent and as she has never held another producer position at the BBC on any of their shows is testament. Now for DTC, I have read some of the backstuff folk said here on his arrival after the Newman saga, he will save EE, hailed a new messiah for the show yet for all the pomp and circumstance he too quickly descended into nonentity with poor decisions, and now we have Tom O'Connor a radio producer who may know what he is doing on The Archers but so far has show he is quickly becoming like the last three that preceded him, still as my partner says give him his honeymoon period and post mortem his tenure once the all important Christmas season is over and how well the show has been perceived by the viewer. One thing is ringing true is that Emmerdale is the second soap and that's because of Eastenders production team who are their own worst enemies. |

I haven't watched EE's avidly for about a year now, I will only watch it if there's nothing else on and I have nothing else to do so I can't comment on the storylines but we switched over to it on Monday and after just a couple of minutes in my husband and I both turned to one another and laughed. The dialogue was awful and the camera was all over the place - hilarious

The fact people get so angry and over the top about a soap is what keeps me on these forums!
![]() Only seen a handful of episodes so can't really judge. For the record this isn't EE in the 1980s IMHO. That had storylines and good characterisation. However I do think he probably should be given to the end of January before judgement can really be made about the new producer. That said it is people's right to complain just as it is people's right to enjoy it. If people are so offended by an opinion that is not their own, then why are they going into a thread that they know they will totally disagree with? There is a fine line between discussion and disagreement, as apposed to shouting someone's opinion down as wrong. |

Thank you. The writing and performance for Kathy has been abominable. What was the point in bringing her back?
But she here and there not gonna kill her off so quick again so they've tried to normalise her and make use of her, despite the 💩 of the panto plot, the writing for her imo has got better then what it was at the start of the year. |

The EP seems a bit of a one trick pony to be fair. The panto story is almost identical to The Archers from a year or several back.

EastEnders is in a crisis which comes at a time where they could very easily face serious budget cuts. The end of the show as we know it.

Over the last few months, I've praised EE for its new direction. I still think that there is a lot of merit in the low-key, down-to-earth approach to storytelling that we're currently seeing.
However, I now have a few doubts. When SOC first took over, there was a noticeable improvement in the quality of writing. I would say that this has now dropped off, and the writing is pretty bland again. Combined with the low-key storylines, this has made the show feel dull. I think that EE should be aiming for a mix of these relatable storylines alongside one simmering big storyline that has a narrative thrust. The problem with the relatable stories is that they don't have much momentum. They just kind of plod along, like real life. But they're an important part of the overall mix. They just shouldn't be the ONLY thing on offer. I know that there are some bigger stories coming up, but the point is that these stories have no momentum at the moment, hence every episode feels a bit laboured. |

I can safely say that was one of the worst episodes I have EVER seen. Absolutely nothing endearing about it and not a single character I really give a monkeys about.
And WTF was that cliffhanger . is this Byker Grove now? Jesus wept. I am really struggling to watch this up until the Mitchell sisters exit which is what I was going to do before saying goodbye. |

This Bex and Shakil storyline makes me cringe, knowing my parents are watching it at the same time.
It should not be one of the main storylines in the run up to Christmas. |
