In this thread: straight people swearing blind that identity doesn't matter, we're all the same in the one breath while claiming that homophobic institutions denying visibilty to LGBT people and letting us know that we exist and are normal is a-okay too.
You can't have it both ways. Are we equal and normal or are we not? Flip it around, if sexuality can't be a thing, isn't important, then that means no-one should sing songs about love at all, boys, girls, or have a partner of opposite sex on TV because sexuality doesn't matter!! Sure, it doesn't matter - in that case I don't need to SEE that you're heterosexual!! It's fine to just BE heterosexual and not mention or draw attention to it...
Because that is essentially what you're saying, folks. That's how ridiculous it comes across.
On another note, it always sticks in my craw when contestants covering songs originally sung by someone of the opposite sex feel the necessity - or the show does for them - to change the gender of the person they're singing about or to, just in case it comes across as gay. Because that matters, clearly...
