I'm wary about that quote at present, as it appears to be unattributed to anyone.
Whilst dumping fuel would be one reason for holding, if the situation was so dire at that point that a crash landing was their only option, whether they'd have had sufficient control over the aircraft to do that must be questionable. It's looking like this accident was a result of either a tragic mistake in calculations, or gross hubris on the part of the pilot

Ronaldinho and Riquelme are offering to play for them for a season, for free.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38215558 Don't need Ronaldinho or Riquelme playing for them though... It would make it all about those players... |

Yes. Nice touch by all concerned
Don't need Ronaldinho or Riquelme playing for them though... It would make it all about those players... In all honesty they might actually want the attention diverting away in some respects. Being in the limelight with what's happened must make it so hard to process everything that the focus being on them might be a good thing. |

Anything that helps the club in any way must be a good thing surely?
I wish the club nothing but good moving forward, it will be oh so very hard to do, but for their next match, whenever they do play it, I hope that they get a full house, and that they know that the whole world is fully behind them. |

The authorities in Bolivia have arrested the head of the airline involved in a crash last week that killed 71 people, including most of the Brazilian football team, Chapecoense.
Gustavo Vargas, a retired air force general, has been detained as part of an investigation into the crash. The plane, operated by the tiny LaMia airline, was taking the team to Colombia when it ran out of fuel. A Bolivian official says she warned the pilot of the problem before departure. The official, Celia Castedo, has now sought asylum in Brazil, saying she suffered threats and abuse. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-38231774 This may be a bit sensationalist from the Mail, but I just assumed that a National team would use one it's own Airlines ? International superstars including Lionel Messi were just 18 minutes from death when they flew on the doomed Bolivian LaMia plane just two weeks before it crashed, killing 75. New reports claim the Argentine footballer and his teammates were in the air for more than four hours - aboard an aircraft which could fly with a full fuel tank for just four hours and 22 minutes. The same plane crashed into a mountainside on November 28, chartered by Brazilian club AF Chapecoense. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...-hospital.html |

Do not forget another South American Football team who had something similar happen to them, Alianza Lima of Peru.
Their plane crashed just north of Lima in December 1987 killing over 40 players, coaches and club staff. Another great tragedy for a leading football club. |
