Labyrinth isn't the greatest singer in the industry by any means, but he puts more emotion into Jealous than just loud booming vocals that Louisa does in my view, as I've already said I think that she could get better when she's older as proper vocal coaches will get a hold of her I reckon and train the horrible habits out of her, but on the show she never should've won just purely off the volume of her voice.

And with Sam Lavery I think there's a few differences already here, the main thing is that it's alot harder for someone in their teens to go into an alternative sounding Music (especially Rock) than it is for someone to do loud booming Diva sounds, and I also do feel that Sam did try to sing subtle in most weeks, in particular she did it really well during Hello, what's hurting Sam and vocal coaches will need to get a hold of her if she gets signed to any label after the show and tell her not to abuse the loud Rock notes so much and not put it in places where it's not needed, it's actually impressive that she can do the notes at such a young age, but she needed experienced vocal coaches to tell her when to use it.

And with Matt Terry it's simple with him, I think that he needs to completely drop the falsetto as he can't do it, it sounds painful every single time that he attempts it, the best avenue for Matt imo is Modelling, I just don't think that his a singer in the slightest.
I think Sam has a few problems:

Firstly she hasn't got a clean attack at all which leads to yelping at the start of a note because she isn't capable of transitioning between registers (Diana had this problem; Matt has this problem). This also floods the vocal chords with air suddenly and damages them.

Secondly her intonation is off by quite a bit but she seems to have a good sense of relative pitch so when she hears that she's off, she tries to correct but sadly goes more out of key.

Thirdly, she doesn't use her project towards her face when she belts which leads to the unpleasant sounds that come out of her sometimes on the notes that require a mix rather than just a chest voice.

With all the above being said, she is by no means a bad singer and I think (like you mentioned) she has a nice voice, it just needs training. Most importantly, she doesn't have a rock voice. No one does. She just doesn't have vocal elasticity so she can't do licks, turns and runs the way someone like Leona or Louisa would. To be fair, I write songs and guitar and sing and it sounds rocky because I'm too rubbish as a singer to sing r'n'b. I'd much prefer to do r'n'b.

It's a bit harsh some of the criticisms that you put on there, which is why I've written the above. It's good to be balanced on the basis of consideration, rather than just tear someone apart. There's good and bad in everyone's voices. It's all about training.

He's not that great to be honest.

He's only surviving because of the "He's well fit innit!" vote, I'd imagine.

I think Sam is a Rock singer, in the Room Audition singing Ellie Goulding I said to everyone on here that she suits Rock songs, she actually could've been the UK's version of Louise Adams for The X Factor franchise only Simon wasted the opportunity and instead showcased her problems because he never selects credible Rock songs to Rock acts on the show and it's why they lose to inferior acts in their individual years, the only ones his good at mentoring are the Housewife Rock acts because they get the most Popped up treatment of them all.

And I normally do try and be balanced, but in this series Matt isn't excelling at anything Musically, vocally Saara, Relley, Sam, and Freddy were stronger, Instrument playing is going to Emily, Freddy, and Saara, genre goes to Sam, Gifty, and Ryan, and performing is the main strength of Saara, Gifty, and Ryan imo.

All Matt is having going for him at this point is his falsetto range, which isn't even very good imo.

I see what you're saying. I think you're definitely right. At the beginning, Matt wasn't and isn't the best singer in the competition at all. He can sing, but he's not the best and when you had another male singer like Freddy who was a lot better, it doesn't really make sense for him to do so well.

I think there is this idea that people have rock voices or r'n'b/soul voices. This is mistaken. It's just a vocal limitation. She doesn't have vocal elasticity and belts without protecting her vocal chords so sounds quite hoarse. But I can see why, listening to her, it would make you say she has a rock voice. I think if she stayed on key and was more gentle with her voice she'd sound nice. She sounded alright at judges' houses. I think the difficulty is that it's very hard to be a rock singer, especially if you're coming out of a reality talent show. But she could do something like P!nk or Kelly Clarkson (I think you may have suggested that earlier).

Anyway, it's nice having some conversation that isn't just people jumping down one another's throats .

Oh you can definitely train singers up to do better in other styles, sadly with The X Factor is that they can't really do that with only 10 live shows to work with, so they tend to train the singers at what they already excel at (if they want the act to do well anyway) so that's where their effort goes.

And yeah I definitely think that Sam could do some Pink and Kelly Clarkson songs, they'd have to be the Pop Rock songs though I think than say Piece By Piece for Kelly Clarkson, or one of Pink's early R&B tracks.

And yeah I do love it when people have different opinions on here as that's where most of the fun comes off a Forum imo, I actually find it sad that alot of us on here have all been forced into having to champion on Saara, or I feel like that anyway as I don't really like the other three acts very much lol.

And with Matt if he can do a good performance this week then I'll be the first to say it, I actually hope he does a good performance anyway as the last couple of winners have been a bit lacklustre when it comes to big performances imo.

Never rooted for an X Factor contestant more than I have rooted for Matt Terry this series. He deserves to win so much. In fact, he is probably the perfect winner. An unbelievable voice. Ability to tackle the most difficult songs and sing them better than the professionals- "Writing On The Wall" was a case in point. Charming personality. Striking good looks. Physically attractive as well. He really does have it all, and it would be an absolute farce if he did not win.

I am not a huge fan of Matt although i appreciate why he is the favourite of this years competition.

He can sing, plus he has the looks which always help, he is the winner, it has been obvious since the first audition and i can't see any other outcome not at this late stage.

Personally, something doesn't click with me for Matt but I 100% appreciate why people like him and you know what good for you. There aren't enough posts on here that are positive. And you're absolutely right that he's a really good singer. I reckon he will win so hopefully you won't come away disappointed .

I hope I wont get shot down but I just had to post here I know Matt wont appeal to everyone but Matt was and is still my favourite, from the very beginning I saw something in him which screamed being one of the contenders to win. He has everything he is a brilliant singer, likeable, good looking and for me has delivered some very good performances which included She's Out of my Life, You Don't Own Me, I Heard it Through the Grapevine, I Put A Spell on You and Writing on the Wall and fully deserves his place in the semi finals. But I just hope that he has a place in the final because I think he deserves to be there.

I'm mixed, I like all the remaining contestants more than him so on some level I don't want him to get through but on another level he seems like a nice lad. I'm not crazy about any of the contestants this year so I don't mind who's in the final. He's a really good singer though so I suspect he'll put up a good fight.
