I was pretty sure that the top celeb story of the year was going to one of the many high profile celebrity deaths. Then Trump won the presidency...

The Bowie death really set the tone for what turned out to be a severely f*cked up year.

Charlie Sheen and a certain injunction as well, but not as shocking as the ones already mentioned.

Well, more so for those who popped their clogs than us. But tell me: I should imagine that more or less the same number of people die every year around the world. What makes this year 'tougher'. Just because we know the names of more of those who croaked?

Good God 2016 has been brutal!

David Bowie, Alan Rickman, Phil Daniels, Muhammed Ali, Frank Kelly, Prince, Victoria Wood, Gene Wilder, Caroline Aherne, Natalie Cole, Abe Vigoda, Terry Wogan and if I wrote anymore names this post will go on forever.

And don't even get me started on Trump winning, dreading 2017 already. I really wanted Bernie Sanders to win but guess it wasn't meant to be.

(Yes OK I know it happened in America and not here in Brighty but let's be honest here, whatever happens in America always ends up affecting the rest of the World, scary time to be alive right now.)

I understand what you're saying, but speaking for myself it's not just the celebrity deaths, in terms of the whole worldly events in general it's been a dreadful year

Paul Daniels, not Phil Daniels and it is Blighty not Brighty. Natalie Cole died in 2015.

Bowie! No one expects a showbiz icon to die 2 days after releasing their latest album!!

At the time it seemed like a weird coincidence & I thought, "SURELY there can't be anything in it, it's just bad timing" but now I'm not so sure.

Time is receding & the year has had shock after shock but that's the biggest for me

It's been a bad year.

Two thirds of Emerson Lake & Palmer now gone this year. One of my favourite bands.

Still can't get over Terry Wogan's and Victoria Wood's death. Great talents who left the world a much brighter place for their presence in it.

Brexit means, I suppose, even more reasons for the Europeans to despise us. I expect we'll now be stuck in the bottom five of the Eurovision Song Contest Results Chart every year now for eternity. "Britain - nul points!"

Five more years of the Conservatives lording it over us, and AN IDIOT taking over the US next month for four years.

No Doctor Who.

Star Trek Beyond was great. Doctor Strange not so much; I realise I'm in the minority in the belief that great Special FX is no substitute for a really good story and characterisation though, so I should have expected it.

It's been a bad year.

I hope there isn't anything (showbiz or otherwise) but I've got a feeling something else really, really shocking is going to happen before the year is up.

It's been a grim year, filled with seriously iconic and heartbreaking loss, but nothing will trump the grimness that is trump and what his rise says about the state of the world.

Yes, its been a shocker of a year, with the sad loss of so many loved and respected famous faces.

I still can't quite believe my life-long musical hero, David Bowie is no longer with us. I clearly remember the exact moment I first fell head over heels in love with him in 1972, when my older brother played me the single of 'John, I'm Only Dancing' and showed me a colour poster of him in the NME (or one of those music mags from that time). I was 11 years old at the time and Bowie's songs provided the soundtrack of my life from that moment on. I have every Bowie album ever released, but almost a year on, I still haven't been able to bring myself to buy Blackstar. Maybe I will on his birthday in a couple of weeks.

Although not a huge fan of his, Prince's death still came as a shock to me, along with the news of two of my favourite female comedians - Victoria Wood and Caroline Aherne.

May they all Rest In Peace.

Rick Parfitt's sudden demise was a bit of a shock too. Is the 2016 cull over?

Well The Queen was too ill to attend the Christmas day service at Sandringham. Though I do hope not.
