I have dabbled a bit in German soaps over the years...

I watched GZSZ just for a brief period a few years back, I only followed the Lenny and Carsten storyline.

I used to watch AWZ a few years ago, mainly to follow Deniz/Roman, but I really liked the whole show. Then I eventually stopped following it, because my German is abysmal and I couldn't follow without subtitles.

I also used to watch Verbotene Liebe, which has ended.

My sister has been watching religiously Sturm der Liebe (which unlike the other soaps is aired in Italy, dubbed) for 10 years, so I'm familiar with it..but I can't say I am a fan.

I was gutted Marienhof ended. I have a huge crush on Jascha Rust who was in GZSZ, He is a fine specimen of a man. Francy - I'm sure your German would improve by watching them.

I could never get into it. Have you tried out GZSZ?

ETA: I'm gutted to hear Verboten Liebe has ended, I didn't even know, and even though I didn't watch it, I hate any soaps ending. Other countries don't seem to keep their soaps going as loyally as the UK and Australia, which is a shame.

Sorry, it's Gute Zeiten, Schlechte Zeiten, I've been using its acronym GZSZ. It's great. Marienhof was my favourite German soap but it ended in 2011

I don't speak Finnish, any good? I'm wondering if I should have opened an 'International Soaps' thread...

I don't speak either language, I'll stick to English but my b/f is a polyglot and interpreter and speaks 18 languages and is good enough in these languages to interpret instantaneously I love the Finnish soap though Elias one of my favourites has just been killed off

You've got quite the catch there then Aaron

I don't think I could add any more soaps to my list, I already watch Home and Away, Home and Away: The Early Years, Neighbours, EastEnders and GZSZ
