OnePlus 3T
I have had my Nexus 5X for a year now but don't intend to upgrade to Google Pixel as it's far too expensive. I am tempted by the new Oneplus 3T but so far see the drawback on it being released with Marshmallow and no Google Now which I use a lot. Is anyone else going for it or has anyone any experience of Oneplus and the Oxygen OS?

I was really tempted by it, but I would have had to go for the 128gb version and spending just over £400 put me off as well as the screen just being HD (especially for a larger screen).
In the end I found a decent deal on a Galaxy S7 from the Amazon Warehouse so went for one of those (would have been far too much at the normal price for me). |

Mine should be arriving tomorrow but I don't think I'll be keeping it.

I could only find a couple of small annoyances, first being the speaker, it's nowhere near the quality of my iPhone, but it does it's job. And I watch a lot of YouTube on my phone and found that on the S7 the audio was slightly out of sync with the persons mouth, couldn't find anyway of sorting it out, it wasn't my internet or data speed as I've never had that problem on any other phone. Have you tried YouTube yet? It was only like half a second out, but it still annoyed me! The pluses far out weigh the one or two negatives though

The S7 is a brilliant phone isn't it? I had one for a couple of weeks testing out what Android was like these days. The screen is fantastic, fast charging takes around 1hr 10mins for a full charge, battery life was great, got a day easily out of it. Camera is amazing.........

Sometimes my Humax Freesat box is a split second out with the sound, but ok when I stop and start playing again, but it is annoying. Mark. |

Received mine today. It does have Google Now, you just swipe up for it instead of right (swipe right gets you their custom shelf thing)
Very early first impressions coming from my 6P, I am not disappointed at all! *touch wood* Amazingly fast. Coming from the 6P I didn't think things could get much faster. Guess they could! Screen looks fine to me. Eyeball searingly bright so should be fine in sunlight. Everything is HUGE in the UI - I wouldn't mind a DPI setting and hope the N build brings that feature across like happened with the 6P. You can tweak it via adb (without root/unlock) and set it to 400 but OxygenOS's overlays (reboot icons, quick settings menu, shelf etc) are all based on 480 so end up looking odd. You can alleviate things a little by reducing the font size to "small". I've only taken a couple of messy test shots (nothing I'd share) with the camera but despite claims to the contrary my experience so far has been *better* than the same shot taken with my 6P. It's true that low light stuff is poor by default, but I've found if I use HQ mode, I got better results than 6P's default. You can also set manual mode, ISO400, 1/3rd second exposure time for decent results. VoLTE works on EE, which hopefully means 800MHz will, so long as they don't insist on whitelisting specific handsets. Wifi Calling does not. Like with the camera and screen, I was expecting to be disappointed with the speaker coming from the 6P. I'm not. It's not as good obviously, you simply can't beat those stereo front firing speakers! But I've heard far worse from a phone. I like that they've chosen smaller chin size instead, to be honest. It's cool that they've factory-fitted a screen protector. It's the first time I've seen one installed properly (I'm useless at them). Quite the fingerprint magnet though. From what I've read their screen itself doesn't have an oleophobic coating, which is a shame, or I'd just pull the protector off. Might eventually plump for their tempered glass one which I think does. Charges nice and quickly off my portable power brick. At 53% it's going at 1400mA according to Ampere, it'd probably go faster at low percentages like the 6P does. The % is still going up with Pokemon Go open (even with AR enabled), which is what matters to me. As for longevity including PoGo sessions etc we'll see tomorrow. I don't know if I'd have noticed the touch latency if there wasn't a big fuss about it. It's fine with gaming and everything as it doesn't seem to affect that type of touch it's just noticable with dragging vs. screen painting. E.g. if you're dragging an icon around or panning a map. Honestly I don't mind it - it feels a little bit like inertial scrolling - I'd have thought it was by design if there wasn't the furore. Early days of course but so far so good and most of the things that worried me (screen, camera, speaker) so far haven't been an issue to me. Losing Wifi Calling was something I grudgingly accepted, though I'd certainly be pleased if it gets it in an update one day. Fingers crossed for 800 access. |

Correction, the speaker is tinnier than the baked beans aisle in Tesco. Well, can't have everything

Thanks very much for the comprehensive and positive review. Just a few questions before I commit myself. Can you use the USB C chargers which you used with the 6P? Does the built in screen protector add much to the thickness of the phone? Did you purchase from OnePlus directly - if so how long did it take to arrive? And can you return if you don't like it? The screen protector is just a little film of plastic so no Bought from 1+ and took a couple of days - though I think there short on stock now so you might not get one this side of Christmas. 14 day return policy as long as it's completely unmarked. I've heard of people marking the charging port area plugging in and having a return refused. I don't think you'll regret it though |

Thanks for that. It's now on order with a three week wait. A Christmas present to myself! ![]() Quote:
Yes you can use the Nexus charger. It won't Dash charge, but still charge quickly enough (about 2A when I tried).

Yes to VoLTE, no to Wifi Calling.
Honestly this is such a good phone I don't care about WC any more. It'll be nice if ever it gets it, but I don't regret getting this device. |

So they've sorted WifiCalling and VoLTE now?
According to a Reddit user - https://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/com...he_oneplus_3t/ This user appears to have got WiFi calling to work on the device so I would say as I said about the VoLTE as long as the network supports it AND ALLOWS THE DEVICE TO USE THE FEATURE, it should connect to it. The technology is clearly there. |

Must admit I'm still tempted with this phone (especially after the great deal on the Amazon Warehouse Galaxy S7 did not turn out to be that good as it had a chip in the screen.
I'm going to try to hold out for the OnePlus 4 (or 5 some say they may call it) as the only thing that is niggling me is the HD screen (especially as I bought a VR headset recently. Does look a good phone though and would snap it up if the 128gb version was £400. |

VoLTE works on EE but not on Three as I understand Three uses some proprietary authentication for Android devices, as a way of forcing you to use the devices they sell directly.

Is the 3T able to do dual-3G? Or is the second SIM always stuck on 2G (Thus meaning it's a bit pointless to use with a Three sim if you want to use anything other than 2G on the other network's sim)?

It was to d123 as he implied there were problems with VoLTE.
It seems it will still struggle with WifiCalling and VoLTE on some networks so it still seems to have some issues to be resolved to really be futureproof. |

You can lock Sim1 to LTE or 3G only too. |

Both full 2/3/4G. Only one for data at a time though.

OnePlus' support is also questionable as they have essentially abandoned all their old handsets...

Oh, so you could (conceivably) have Voda in Sim 1, EE in sim 2. If you set the Voda sim as the one to use for data, the EE sim would still connect to (say) 4G800 and offer VoLTE coverage?
