Apologies if this topic has already been done. I didn't realise several of these were cover versions until recently. I'm sure there are more I haven't listed here.

Pet Shop Boys - Go West
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah
The Flying Pickets - Only You
It's all subjective blah blah, but I'm not so sure about these three necessarily being better known. Probably an age thing, but I always associate them with Village People, Leonard Cohen and Yazoo respectively. I suppose there's a case to be made for The Flying Pickets, given that song's ubiquity at this time of year.

I'll chuck I Love Rock n' Roll into the ring. First released by The Arrows in 1975, but arguably made famous by Joan Jett in the early 80's.

I said "better known", not necessarily superior to the original version, which of course is purely a matter of opinion.
Sorry, I misread your thread title as "better" instead of "better known". My bad.

Father and Son by Ronan Keating- original by Cat Stevens. Not sure either versions are well remembered though.

Dolly's version is better than Whitney
Much better, pretty sure most people know it's a Dolly classic.

Agree with many of them, but no way is Bananarama's version of "Venus" superior to the original by Shocking Blue.
Neither are a couple of others, such as seasons in the sun, and Whitneys version of 'I will always love you'.

Take That " How deep is your love "
You think that's better known than the Bee Gees version. You're having a laugh.
Never in a million years is that better known than the Bee Gees version.

Is this an anti Bee Gees thread.
No way is that better known than the Bee Gees version. I haven't heard Steps version since it was in the chart. As soon as it went out the chart all the radio stations went back to playing the Bee Gees version. Steps my backside.
