AN ancient set of lead tablets showing the earliest portrait of Jesus Christ have proved to be around 2,000 years old, according to experts.

The metal “pages”, held together like a ring binder, were found in Jordan in around 2008 and make reference to Christ and his disciples.

The tablets suggest that Christ was not starting his own religion, but restoring a thousand year old tradition from the time of King David.

And the God he worshipped was both male and female.
Well that could put the cat among the pigeons

Spot on - https://youtu.be/rMfB96pwcTA

Anyway, what about what he looked like below the neck. I bet he had a peachy derriere and legs to die for.

I always take the "son of god" description symbolically. Catholics worship "Mary, mother of Jesus" more prominently than Jesus himself and Protestants tend to worship Jesus and God as one or as linked entities. Mary and God certainly fulfils the one God that is both male and female, but I do worry as to why scholars feel it is perfectly fine to change the course or even invalidate Christianity, when they wouldn't even dare to do the same with Islam. Or Hinduism. I think it's fine, and kind of exciting to find things that more or less confirm Jesus' existence, but it should always be handled in a respectful and frankly, non-compromising way when it comes to undermining the spiritual belief, and lifelong hope, of millions.

The find is fascinating, particularly the theory of the male/female element.

Doesn't nullify the "Son of God" reference though, because in some transcripts he is referred to as the "Son of humanity" with God being an alternative translation.

He also cries out "My God. My God, Why have you forsaken me?" with only some translations claiming "Father, why have you forsaken me?"

I am not convinced it is the real thing, what it's made up of might be old but a ring binder book, Flintstonesish I think.

... and don't forget that we have an exact record of every utterance, written exactly as the words fell from his lips, and it has never been altered or tampered with to suit the religious temperament of anyone writing at a later date.... oh no, that never happened, not at all. Every passage is entirely authentic, yessiree. ho ho ho, ha ha ha, he he he.

The headline is slightly on the sensationalist side. From the article:

Further crystallisation analysis indicates that the codex is likely to be between 1800-2000 years old.

In other words it dates back to either the first or second century. It's misleading to claim that experts date it within a few years of Jesus and there's no reason to assume it pre-dates the New Testament writings.

The tablets suggest that Christ was not starting his own religion, but restoring a thousand year old tradition from the time of King David.
And by that, the Sun mean that Christianity was a break-away group from Judaism rather than an entire new religion. If you read the New Testament you'll find it quotes the Old Testament all over the place and this is not news to anyone who is familiar with the history of Christianity.

His actual existence isn't that contentious. A man of that name may well have made some waves. Being the son of some supreme being, that's a whole new can of worms.

Some scholars say the modern image of Jesus' face was based on one of the 7 Wonders - the statue of Zeus at Olympia, after it was said to be moved to Constantinople (which is why Jesus is now shown as a white man), this 'new' book was probably based on that too.

Personally, I agree, it was Robert Powell, and Babs Lord was Mary Magdalene.

If the reports are true then Jesus was a "back to basics" Jew, similar to the Puritans & some Islamist groups.

Paul created a new religion based on that sect.
