Martin & Stacey are delightful & I love that they're a 'normal' couple who actually love each other!

I also enjoy seeing Ronnie happy

You are most welcome. I think Lisa is a decent actress and has the ability to switch between comedy and drama with effortless ease.

I'm enjoying the more believable pace of life and that the characters all seem much more "roudned" and "human".

The Jane and Stacey scene making the Christmas cake was lovely, especially when Jane made her wish.

I like the rejuvination of certain characters. They are working hard to redeem Jane and Kathy. Vincent is now so much more than a Mitchell-chasing, bulging eyed psycho.

The family units all seem a lot more believable too. Little things like seeing Sharon making breakfast for her family add that extra touch of realism.

Ronnie has been a consistent character under SOC. It might be a bit boring compared to recent years, but I'd rather consistent than one week she be a psycho gangster and then the next the doting mother.

I do think sometimes its lacking that drive, but I would personally take this version over guns, fake deaths, people being buried alive, murderers roaming free and characters totally changing week byw eek to suit the sensationalist storylines,

That's unfair I'm quite a balanced poster in the main and have even praised EE recently, it's the show's fans that make me laugh on here.

I'm enjoying the fact that it feels "balanced" and that everyone is getting a fair crack of the whip. Dot, Patrick and Kathy have all been fab recently, and I'm even enjoying characters like Tina who I previously couldn't stand.

Also, characters doing nice things for each other, and having actual conversations about their hopes and fears. They feel like real people again and not just pawns to facilitate storylines. These last two months have been a real breath of fresh air. EastEnders feels like an entirely different show already.

The improved use of characters.

A year ago, characters were contained in their own family/storyline bubbles. Some would disappear for weeks on end while others took centre stage. And then there were those that were just treated like shit full stop. That's all changed under SOC.

They've not been the best executed storylines, but the pantomime and dart plots show this up best. Derek, Patrick, Kathy and Abi. Linda, Babe, Ronnie, Tina, Kathy, Sharon. Then you have scenes with Jane, Lauren and Stacey this week, on top of Jack, Vincent, Kyle and Kush all chatting on Martin's old sofa a few weeks back. There's many like that I can mention, but SOC has indeed introduced a strong community feel back to the show.

These friendships also mean that it feels like no character is ever in the background disappearing for months. What's the longest we've actually gone without seeing one particular character on screen in weeks? 4/5 episodes at most. It feels like nobody is being underused and that's a huge improvement.

Then we have characters like Billy, Donna, Vincent. Billy now has a solid job, a strong family unit (including with the other Mitchells, he's no longer the runt of the family) and actually has purpose for the first time in years. Donna was near the top of my axe list a year ago, yet she's become one of the show's funniest and most likeable characters. Vincent feels like he's found his place...as a family man who gels with the rest of the community. Kathy and Sharon too are no longer the perennial whiners they were mere weeks ago. My hatred of Stacey has also diminished, she's become a very solid character alongside Martin.

Writing this post out has actually made me appreciate what SOC has done so far. The good drama and storylines are a bit thin on the ground and it has made for some tedious viewing at times but I hope that soon the big plots will come and, combined with the strong community the show is building up, EE will be in a good place again.

Not much really. The Shaki & Bex storyline is OK but too protracted. The call centre and Oz theme as it shows that EE characters aren't all that savvy and self reliant when they're taken out of their cosseted Walford environment. Jay with his problems as Billy/Honey. They're a decent couple who sadly are marginalised by the infernal Mitchells and Carters. They deserve much better. And also, Kim and her driving which adds relief to otherwise turgid and unwatchable storylines.

This is exactly how I feel. I'm very positive and optimistic about the direction the show is heading in.

Great post, Yoshi.
