From Orange Website:

Talk Now is the first service of its kind that lets you communicate at the press of a button. There's no need to dial or wait for someone to answer - just press a button and talk.

instant connection
talk to one person or up to 10 people at the same time
check the icons on your phone's screen to see who's available to talk
set your own availability status to show when you're available to talk
use your phone like a walkie-talkie but with the same range as when you make calls
Talk Now is currently available on Handspring Treo phones only. It will be available on other phones soon.

When talking to one other person it costs 15p per minute.

When talking to between two and 10 others it costs 30p per minute.

I can see the idea of the feature to make it like a walkie-talkie... But when you are walking around doing your weekly shoping and your bag starts talking! Scary.... And does that mean anyone can call and say anything?

Freaky.... Hope this does not start pranking!! Bad enough getting calls asking to move you contract when they are not wanted...

You still have to make/accept a connection. Your provider will provide you with a PTT/POC address, which is similar to an email address. Your phone, and the person you want to connect to, must support PTT. It is done over GPRS so the phone must also be using the "always on" GPRS setting. You can also have a group of people connected, so if everyone in your family has phone you can all use whilst out together.

Don't you also have an equivalent to an instant messaging contact list so you can see who is "online" and only accept messages from the people on the list?

I know some providers in the US allow the push to talk thing to work with MSN Messenger which I think is quite cool.

I've got a Treo 600 (which I don't use anymore), but there is nothing on it for PTT services.

I dont get it.

So you can use it like a walkie talkie but you still have to pay?

I thought it meant that you could talk for free if you were in the same building.
