And as has been pointed out by Aurora13 on the UK TV thread for the programme, it's his 15 times great grandfather, and he would have had "32,000 15x great grandfathers. If each of those only had an average of 2 children they would have each had 32,000 15x great grandchildren."
If you take the offspring from each generation, assuming 2 each, it works out at about 32 million of present day people are related to Thomas Cromwell, and with the population being over 64 million, around half of us are. Not very impressive then.

It did seem odd they had to go back 600 years and more to find someone who was interesting.
