A VT of Saara visiting the Finnish embassy is this week. Since day 1 I knew when this happened Saara is out. Your thoughts?

Embassy VT won't change the fact that Saara will be in top 2. Emily and 5AM will fight for place in the final.

It will. Look up sofabet.. They are great analysts.

Would something like that be detrimental to votes? I mean I know sometimes a bad VT can impact voting but I don't think a Finnish embassy would qualify. Surely the song choice and performance are more influential?

Anyway, I hope not. I'd hate to think Sara has been sabotaged a week before the final. She's earned her place and deserves to go through.

I'm confused, why will this mean Saara will be out?

I suspect it won't harm her a bit - remember, we're in December now, and Finland is where Lapland is - get ready for her being branded the most Christmassy contestant ever, along with an endorsement from Santa!!!

She came into the show with her whole 'Snow Fairy' thing. Honestly, if it were any other country, I'd agree that it would hammer home the whole 'foreigner' trope that got Andrea and Ruth eventually dumped, but I rather suspect she's played a blinder this time round - especially with the Christmas song theme!

Thanks for your analysis. Yours is the type I was looking for.

Let's hope your true.

The theory goes that it was used to derail Andrea Faustini basically by reminding people they're foreign and it'll be enough to moblise votes behind the 'British' X Factor finalists. Can have a foreigner winning one of our talent shows is supposedly the required effect.

I'm not sure its the case with Saara though, she hasn't exactly been played down on her Finnish roots and has had VTS in Finnish and they haven't affected her vote- I genuinely don't think this is a tactic to try and get her out, we'll know more when it comes to song choices and stuff

We might get a hint later about the songs on X Factor Twitter but they should be announced tomorrow morning

Again, where's the evidence for this sort of thing? People genuinely think that they producers are some kind machiavellian geniuses, they we as the 'switched on' viewers are outsmarting. It's absurd, funny but weird and absurd.

You know this... how? You shouldn't make certain claims where you know they're approximations or opinions not back by any substantive evidence.

Tellymix poll has been spot on last couple of weeks. Look at the poll now:

yes they want saara out by triggering a brexit vote.
but the public might decide to keep her in.

I don't think it is a secret that Saara is from Finland. Of all the Sofabet conspiracy theories this is one of the strangest.

I misread that as 'Santa is from Finland' and was, like, 'duh'!

No, actually I think Saara's nationality has been her USP, rather than an awkward hindrance. Someone else mentioned her near perfect English, and you could compare that to other non-British or Irish nationals in XF, who have often had heavily accented English, and presented more definitively within their nationalities (Andrea especially).

It's awful to make such a distinction, but I suspect Saara's northern European/Nordic roots, and their propensity for speaking flawless English, do help cancel out any perception of 'foreignness'. She's quirky enough to be different, but not 'foreign' enough to be unrelatable.

So now I have taken time to look at this thread properly I'm taking it you are basing I on the evaluation of the bookies. Not a very reliable barometer old egg.

Blimey the bloke that runs sofabet has too much time on his hands.

He probably does considering he was able to quit his day job with his winnings from betting on shows like X-Factor.

Still I wouldn't stake my shirt on any betting statistics being a barometer of how the show will precede. After all that is not the point. The point is, how much will the bookies get.

At the time of typing this, Saara is on 52.19%

It's well known that Saara's from Finland so I doubt that shoving this in the face of viewers should make any difference. It shouldn't do anyway. She said she was from Finland in her audition. Besides, her accent gives it away anyway.

I think that's part of her appeal. That she's got a nice accent from a country that everyone is curious about. I hope it will help her more than anything.

Has anyone here ever encountered racism towards Finnish people?
