Ant and Dec missing the mark
Generally they're good, but several times I've noticed Dec use the phrase 'smash your faces in' of course he is joking but to me, and especially in todays 'Daily Mail' climate it normalises violence, especially to impressionable kids watching.
The other thing is Ant's constant referral to websites that he knows, again jokingly but again normalising pornography. There was also the timing of the joke about standing up at the job interview after Carols story of outright sexism, while Dec's story was funny the timing trivialized the issue. Ok rant over

Have to agree especially the job interview story. They also talk about getting drunk - a lot! Don't get me wrong I like a drink but these guys are watched by a lot of kids.

I found those remarks quite funny actually. Think Ant and Dec seemed very stifled the first week or so and are just getting back into it this last week.

Isn't 9pm seen as watershed though, if their more adult humour is shown then? So any children watching, then that is down to parents and parenting, not Ant and Dec. Plus producers are there to edit stuff, even live stuff is not always live but a few minutes behind I think to allow for any editing.

It is repeated at 6 o'clock in the evening on ITV2 though. I volunteer in a primary school and the majority of the older children watch it.

In which case, it is ITV2 that is wide of the mark. Instead of infantilising a show that is intended for a grown-up audience, they should not show an progamme designed for adult viewing in a peak family-viewing timeslot.

I think they have been appalling this series.
Lost their spark. They look bored, they should look to try something new if they have lost their interest in this great show. |

I have never seen it as a kids show, so if parents have a problem with the humour then its up to them to stop their kids watching it. I don't mind those jokes, its long running jokes that fit the show. It's been more annoying how they are kissing up to Larry all series even when he was pretty horrible to Martin for no reason.

It's a reference to James Jordan saying he'd smash in the faces of anyone who hits on Ola in the jungle. Just repeating it to make fun of that.

To a lot of people Ant Dec are jumped up ex child stars who filled a vacuum for ITV.
The humour is cringeworthy. I doubt Dec could smash anyone's face in, Ant was attacked in a London pub a while back with Ant. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz...ed-attack.html He can cheat on his partner, but he will always be a boy in a small man's body...... |

Is it still a great show though? Or have they lost interest because how it's declined this year?

The only thing I've found worrying this series is the joking and making light of what happened to Joel regarding content being posted on the internet.
Revenge porn is something that's a big deal, a crime and something that is getting more awareness by the day. In 5 or 10 years we will look back at this series of the show and be flabbergasted that it was joked about so readily IMO. |

Those two have been phoning it in for years. This is not the first series they have seemed bored and unfunny. I don't blame them, though... As a presenter, I can't imagine giving a toss about this nonsense after 15 years of mostly interchangeable 'celebrities' getting bugs/reptiles put on them. I give them credit for feigning even this much interest.
I do have to agree though, the "smash your faces" joke is not even remotely funny. |
