I know it's a bit early but i decided to go ahead and make a thread ready for the new season. Plus, it has been announced we are getting the first part of a two part season premiere on december 15th. But the series will begin as normal January 5th.

Here is the show's new promo pics, new promo video and a press release detailing the new season

Just bumping this thread since the first half of the 2-hour premiere was aired last night.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and it definitely didn't have the soapiness of previous seasons IMO. For the first time in ages I can safely say that I am looking forward to seeing what happens next.

The sisters were still fighting and there wasn't as many songs as I would have liked, but hopefully it is just shaking off the last poor season's baggage getting ready for what I hope is a reboot of how the show used to be.

Connie Britton has confirmed she isn't leaving the show, as it was rumored last year she was.

I don't know why they keep trotting this "get it back to what Nashville is all about" line... I don't see much difference in season 4 to season 1. In fact season 1 was perhaps the most annoying with the stupid political/mayor storylines. At least in season 4 every storyline seemed to have some basis in the music or the careers of music stars. The much criticised Maddie for example, her storyline was steeped in music, wanting a music career and the other parts come from that. At least, that is what i think anyway.

There was too much doom and gloom in S4.

Where was the fun?

The way they wrote Deacon was poor too. Couldn't they have just let him and Rayna have some space to get along?

It also didn't help that Hayden had problems in real life, and I still feel that Clare doing a 'Felicity' with her hair didn't help either.

It has always had a gloomy edge to it, deacon is a tragic character, Scarlett has always been pretty miserable, will has always been struggling with his demons, Layla has always struggled to get her career started/not be seen as a joke, Avery has always felt a bit used and carrying a chip, Juliet has had many demons... I know it is a popular criticism that series four was more miserable than previous series but personally I don't think that to be the case.

Was it poor writing for deacon? He had always worn his heart in his sleeve and been quite aggressive.

I do agree Juliet was missed BUT I was glad to see her character recover from depression and move away from the Juliette of season four (maybe I have just contradicted myself.... however season 1-3 Juliette also had times of misery/gloom

Well that definitely felt like Nashville of old.

I think it helped that the daughters were not in it and it focused on Rayna and Deacon's relationship without them.

It was also good that they focused on The Exes, I hope they don't create conflict just for the story's sake.

Lets at least have a couple of relationships that work.

Will's storyline was OK, it was good that he didn't cheat with the fashion designer, and I hope it isn't the old 'Gay men have sex with anyone' type storyline.

The Music was a bit bland but at least it featured a bit more than before.

Good to have the show back.
