Oh no for sure Ireland is beautiful and probably better than benidorm or marbella as a backdrop.

More the reasons for the location being changed have got my goat

Why would Ireland put anyone off? We have a glorious country that looks incredible on film

Also given the cast it's hardly a vanity project given the Irish acting talent that are appearing in it.

It's nothing to do with his ego. Do you think the beeb would give it the go ahead on that basis?

I'm looking forward to it, nice scenic location and a good cast. Just a shame Kat and Alfie are in it

I'm glad they switched it to Ireland from Spain. Spain is conjuring visions of something lightweight and tacky designed to play to Shane Richie's, ahem, "comedic strengths" and full of wacky hijinx.

Redwater sounds very dramatic and more up my street. I love both the cast and the setting. Jessie Wallace is a fabulous actress but has rarely been afforded the opportunity to work with other great actors on EastEnders so I'm looking forward to watching her face off against Fionnula Flanagan and Maria Doyle Kennedy.

The Alfie brain tumour and Kat's lost son storylines should be apart of the main show. Not sure what the point of a spinoff is?

I thought it was always set in Ireland?

More interesting, and nicer location than Spain anyway.

This is destined to be shown during the daytime schedule. Dire premise.

Sunday nights would be good, but they may opt for a lead in from EastEnders so perhaps Mondays?

It wont air during the day

It seems to be a decision that was made very early on. I've never heard before this that it was going to be set in Spain.

I think writers/producers need to have a certain amount of ego, because one of the key mantras of writing is to stick with what you know. Had it been set in Spain, it might have had a slightly naff Benidorm feel about it. Setting it in beautiful rural Ireland might lend it a certain gravitas otherwise lacking. So on this occasion I feel DTC made the right call.

The thing that is bugging me about the show the most is the name. It's a nitpick, I know, but 'Redwater" doesn't sound remotely like a real Irish town to me. It sounds like some American crime thriller set in the Midwest.

I agree with this, actually. From what we've heard, DTC is going for more of a 'thriller' feel for Redwater. Kat rocking up in Magaluf screaming, "Awrite, dahhhling!" would come off like a cheesy, straight-to-DVD spinoff of EE.

It won't be in in the daytime, the episodes are an hour long and there are no hour-long slots on BBC1. It'll definitely be 9pm.

Lea that's nonsense. Sorry.

Ever stop to think that perhaps it was cheaper to locate to Ireland? The Irish government offer very good tax incentives to do. You seem to think the bbc would fund a show solely based on someone's ego?

Supposedly the BBC were very impressed with Redwater and have high hopes it will become a long running drama series. It will be shown at 9.00 pm like all other BBC dramas of it's nature.
