Probably not worthy of a thread but was hoping someone may have seen something I have missed, he was saying today that it would be a stretch to buy a one bedroom flat yet he got a £500 thousand pound for his shares in home farm from Lawrence and then a separate divorce pay out from chrissie on top of this which I assume was fairly lucrative.

Has this been retconned so it never happened or have I missed the part where he lost it? He bought into the haulage company for less thank 50k so where is the rest of it?

Robert bought Home James from Jimmy and Nicola so maybe that is where all his money went. However I doubt their little trucking business cost that much.

I think it was 36k, he got 500k from Lawrence and then a divorce settlement on top of that yet today's he couldn't affor a one bedroom flat.

Ooh, I was just asking the same thing on another thread. I really hope there is a plausible answer. It wasn't even that long ago - surely the writers haven't forgotten about it already?

I think soap characters finances are on a as need basis for story. Like with Fiz and Tyrone on Corrie they were broke but it made no sense since they don't have to pay rent since Tyrone inherited the house from Jack and Vera

You are right he only bought Charity's share. If I remember correctly though Robert got the check from Lawrence and then turned around and gave Charity a check for her share in Home James in the following scene.

But now lets assume all that money is gone, Robert still has his Audi R8, that car has to be worth at least a 100G. If they were that broke Robert could sell that car buy a decent house and maybe a A3 instead.

We saw Charity and Robert making the deal and discussing the figures. He bought half for only 38k leaving him with £462,000 which has apparently vanished into thin air

and also like Nico pointed out, the 500K was from Lawrence for his share of Home Farm, he also got a separate sizeable but unspecified settlement from Chrissie settled through their lawyers some time before this. They toasted it together in The Woolpack and everything so it's official even if Emmerdale have forgotten about it

The scripting for ED is ludicrous lately.

As well as the £500k from Lawrence for what he had brought to the Home Farm business he got a divorce settlement from Chrissie. Also he has lived rent free ever since leaving Chrissie so he is the one that should be minted.

Weird that they are just completely forgetting this unless he has invested it in something other than home James

I may be wrong but I bet he's been living not only rent free but cost free during his years with the whites, I don't think he will have ever said to chrissie "no love put your purse away, I'll pay". I bet he even used her card for the nights in hotels,with Aaron or her sister.

I was confused by this too. It wasnt that long ago that Robert got all this money yet tonight we were meant to believe he didnt have a penny.

I think it's a case of they need the boys to not be able to afford it alone for the sake of the plot and they are hoping the audience will have forgotten Robert being awarded at least half a million (possibly closer to the million when you add on the money he got from Chrissie) only a few months ago. One of the writers replied to an enquiry about it earlier on twitter by saying he spent his money buying Home James. Which doesn't wash as we know how much he bought it for because figures were discussed on screen and it was a drop in the ocean of his £500,000. He would still have more than double the money Liv got from Gordon left.

Also do we what happened to Gordon's house? Liv through a party there shortly after his death and was going on about "owning it" now.

Why is anybody actually surprised by this? If ED can conveniently forget he killed someone and attempted to do the same to others because it suits them they'll have no qualms in conveniently forgetting about a few banknotes. His ill gotten cash will have gone the same way as the rest of him, either rewritten or whitewashed out of the history books. Ridiculous that they think viewers, some of them anyway, are so stupid. We're not all squeeeing so much over cheap poxy scenes we don't notice or care about the details, nor is said cheap poxy scene enough to not need any plot to follow.

Well as far as crimes go Emmerdale have forgotten more murders, kidnaps, violence etc than have actually happened in the real world during the same time. It's just not a big deal but forgetting something as simple as Robert's settlement from the business and divorce settlement that happened within the year and as a precursor of him ending up with Aaron is just totally embarrassing and incredibly stupid
