Sad news Rip Andrew, he was brilliant in Fawlty Towers as Manuel, he was a great actor. I was surprised when i found out when he was German, always assumed he was Spanish due to Manuel when i was younger. RIP.

I once met him in Sheffield Town Centre many years ago (think he was appearing at the Lyceum or Crucible in some play). He actually approached me to ask for directions, and on immediately recognising him, embarrassingly made some sort of Basil Fawlty impression. I'm sure he was secretly bored with something which I assume he was hearing many times a day just going about his daily business but, gentleman that he apparently was, he laughed politely and thanked me for the directions.
RIP. |

Why is this not being more widely reported? Nothing on BBC or Sky and a couple of tweets I've seen. Seems odd.
And nothing on DS! |

Whats even sadder is the Daily Fail using this news to remind people of how they took down the BBC during "Sachsgate". Yes, Ross and Brand were in the wrong but not now, eh?

We've been re-watching Fawlty Towers recently - my daughter loves it and finds Manuel hilarious!
RIP

It's now on DS. I expect it to be on the BBC imminently.

But as it's now mentioned on Sky News then it must surely be true that he's dead. And that article about it being a hoax that he died, is in fact a hoax itself.RIP Andrew. |

Finally the BBC have confirmed. They're always last because they always make absolutely sure.
RIP Sir. |

Sky News is saying 'reportedly' but BBC News is stating it as fact.......it's usually the other way around in such situations.

Wonder if Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand will have anything to say or if they will keep their gobs shut?

Very sad. RIP Andrew.
![]() I wonder did he make up with his granddaughter Georgina Baillie? She did an interview a few years ago where she said Andrew wouldn't speak to her anymore after she was involved in the Ross /Brand scandal. |

Amazing how a life can be defined by one role.
Sad to hear of this and the fact he'd been suffering with dementia as, equally sadly, is Prunella Scales. "Eee's a hamster, Mr Fawlty..." |
