I'm not invested in it as much this year - I'm even going to a works Christmas do on the night of the Final and I'm not bothered about only watching a recording. Last year I was heavily invested and wouldn't have missed an episode for the world.
The producers have made so many changes to the format. This year seems even worse for the poor music choices, constant themes, celebs having to get into a character and the use of props. The ratings may be high but the show has lost a lot of it's former classiness. When you think how it used to be - 3 months of dancing, no props, not even a Halloween theme, and all to appropriate music wearing beautiful outfits. Even the audiences were better behaved - I don't think they were encouraged to hiss and boo at the judges comments, or whoop and shout through a dance performance back then in the old days

It needs a complete revamp and if that means changing everything and everybody well so be it. |

Im still watching and in the main enjoying however it's the weird music choices that have been spoiling it for me. I want to see dances danced to suitable music that enhance the dance and the characterisation. Good dances have been ruined for me by music that doesn't fit/is too fast/undermines the characters (i.e in a paso) and so on. I wish they would give the professionals the choice.

If the public just wanted to see good dancing there would be lots of musicals with dancing filling the prime time TV slots. Guess what? The public want something else. They want to see celebs take the Strictly journey and come up with a right old mix of dances, good and bad. People they can love and people they can hate, not just people to respect for fine footwork and arm extensions.
So less ringers, less backing dancers, more learners. I'd quite happily have watched Greg, Daisy, and Laura for a few more weeks. |

I suppose it's not too much of a stretch to understand that someone who has trained for a number of years in any form of dance discipline is going to find it reasonably straightforward to pick up the additional skills and techniques of other dance disciplines - in this case Latin and Ballroom - and refine them to a pretty decent standard with greater ease and attainment than someone who has never taken a dancing lesson of any description in their life.

I have watched since day 1 series 1 and just don't feel the excitement any more. I hate the 'J' word, but at least when sportspeople and TV presenters won you could see the journey unfolding. They may not have been great dancers but they started with little or no experience and for me that's what Strictly should be about, rather than good dancers becoming better dancers.

But there has always been a mix of absolute beginners and dancers with experience. Jill Halfpenny had tons of previous experience and won series 2, Alesha can hardly have been deemed a beginner. Kara also and Tom Chambers etc etc. There's usually two or three contestants that stand out as being better than the rest from day one and this year is no exception. We've had sportspeople and TV presenters in this Strictly, it's popularity that will ultimately give them the glitterball. Natalie Gumede and Denise VO can testify to that. I don't think the programme has changed at all. There have been plenty of beginners this year, it's down to the public (and also them .. they need to engage etc) to get them to the final etc. Chris Hollins won when he wasn't probably even the fourth best dancer that year. Mostly because he was seen to have improved and people liked the partnership. Doubt many people watch his routines back though .. apart from the Charleston.

Last year I found boring because of the bias towards Jay.You expect Saint Kevin of Grimsby to get preferential treatment but last year, not just Jay, but also Peter Andre had a few suspicious marks. This year I have found it very lack lustre and in need of a good shake up

i'm enjoying the show as much as i usually do - i think we have a lot of good dances / dancers this year and that makes for a high quality competition.
i have all the usual gripes about the silly VTs and the annoying judge (Len) however i like tess and claudia and most of the pros (except anton ) ) and most of the contestants.the thing i've lost interest in this year is the forum. not sure why, there are still funny and interesting posters here, but i don't seem to want to get involved in arguing the toss with the moaners/complainers/board illuminati this year. |

Perhaps the forum is reflecting how people feel about this year.

I think this series has been really flat and I hope it livens up next year. I can't put my finger on why.
The obvious top 3 have zero appeal for me and I don't care who wins. I love Rob Rinder but he's obviously going to be the next one out. Claudia I feel has been at a disadvantage throughout by having a partner who is too tall for her and imo not a great choreographer except to show himself off. The judging has been biased. It has all been a bit meh.

That'll shake up the show a bit! |

Claudia's been consitently undermarked in all her best weeks - with comments and marks out of synch. She's the only one I have bothered downloading the youtubes of since Daisy, left. Danny is a professionally trained dancer , dancing like a few hundred people trained to that level every year can . i can't get excited about that. Louise hasn't produced a memorable dance yet - and she's not perfoming much beyond where she was at 16. Ore still can't act, and his good dances look suspiciously good , while his poor ones look bad. Its a weak year all around - with Balls adding some novelty. They seem to have run out of interesting stories to develop, found no really impressive dancers, found no one to go on a journey, and , with about 60 ? Gold medla winners to go for, only managed to get someone who came third. They either need to tap the Dancing on Ice pool of talent, or pay more - so some top Olympians, singers, or actors , turn up . |

I don't agree with the OP, I think it is MOSTLY a good series, BUT the judges scoring, music choices for some couples have spoilt the series for me a little bit but I am still enjoying it.

Danny is NOT a Professionally trained Ballroom and Latin dancer and that is different to stage school dancing.

It can't be THAT bad though as the show still gets around 5 MILLION MORE viewers than The X Factor.

Morris / folk dancing?
![]() The only form of "learned" dancing I've done is Scottish Country dancing but that's more about learning the specific steps to certain named dances e.g the Dashing White Sergeant or Stri[ the Willow - and those steps don't really vary - or at least they're not supposed to! It may be the same with Morris dancing or other folk dances, I don't know...I kind of meant, choreographed dancing really though - be it, jazz, tap, contemporary etc.... where there are no precise steps which define the dance completely. |
