If the public just wanted to see good dancing there would be lots of musicals with dancing filling the prime time TV slots. Guess what? The public want something else. They want to see celebs take the Strictly journey and come up with a right old mix of dances, good and bad. People they can love and people they can hate, not just people to respect for fine footwork and arm extensions.
So less ringers, less backing dancers, more learners. I'd quite happily have watched Greg, Daisy, and Laura for a few more weeks. |

I sort of echo a lot of the sentiments posted in this thread.
This series is the first time I've fallen out of love with it. Even Series 7 didn't make me feel like this. There's a been a number of reasons why; the overmarking, the typical "favourites" (although I'm really enjoying Danny. THAT SAMBA!), HORRENDOUS music choices, unnecessary props, oh, and the totally useless backing dancers. Blackpool was a watershed for me with the backing dancers. What about 2010 when they went to Blackpool and there was nothing like that? Just fabulous dances that saw some such as Kara and Matt up their game. That series was wonderful. But as long as it gets the ratings then nothing will be changed. I do think something needs to be changed because the exceeding move towards entertainment will jeopardise the dancing - and that is what the series is all about isn't it? I mean, yes it is 'entertainment' in that sense but not while dancing gets jeopardised. |

As long as the show keeps getting high ratings the BBC will consider it a job well done. Why change something that is working?
The BBC have to make the show for the millions who watch it as a dance based entertainment show and they more or less do a decent job. Yes I moan at a few things but I recognise that its not the world champs, just a bit of fun on a Saturday night. |

A ringer won last series. And the series before that. They splattered Caroline's extensive experience all over the front pages on the day of the final and it doesn't appear that anyone cared. A ringer won the most succesful series of the show ever, out of a final line-up in which all of the Final 4 were ringers. Jill was an incredibly popular winner, as was Alesha. Both ringers. People are quite happy to vote for trained dancers putting out high quality performances. They don't actually appear to want "something else" a lot of the time.

Putting to one side Darren Gough's week one to week 2 journey for a minute - what would be the most places a winner has made up from week one to win, please
![]() Compare that to this series and Ore (6th) would be a bigger "jurnee" than any of the above, Cloudia (8th) would be one of the same magnitude as Darren, and Rinder (10th) would be the biggest we've ever had. |

I'm bored too, for many reasons I think, most of which have been covered.
But also because I don't particularly enjoy either of the ringy ringers. |

In week 1, Chris, Jill and Tom were 4th, Louis, Kara, Jay, Mark, Alesha and Caroline were all 3rd, Harry and Natasha were 2nd, Abbey was 1st.
So not only are ringers well accepted was winners, even non-ringers tend to start from a fairly high point. |

I think I always prefer the earlier weeks when the bigger personalities are in the show. For me, Ed has made the series, but ironically if he hadn't been in it I might be finding the final five more interesting, but they suffer in comparison. I'm at least hoping for a bit of an upset this weekend and for Judge Rinder to go through.

I'm enjoying it far more than last year. The obsession with Jay and Aliona was just bizarre. My major gripe this year is the music which has been so off for some of the dances.

Both Alesha and Caroline were in the dance off, remember. They would have gone home if their dance quality, from training or otherwise, hadn't been too good for the other competitors.

To say that Strictly consistently beats X Factor is a nonsense. Personally I've never watched X Factor, but read enough about it to know that it could never be considered a threat to Strictly.
That said, I stopped watching Strictly early on last year. I dislike faits accompli, but this year I'm watching only for Ore. Louise leaves me cold, as does Cloudier and I'm so over Rinders pouts and gurning. I shan't be unhappy with a Danny win, but I'm cheering on Ore, who seems to be the forgotten man this series. |

No-one seems to bother that Danny was not very good at dancing when at college according to a comment on Youtube. His friends are amazed how well he is doing!

I'm about done with this programme too, it's become boring, I never thought I would say that, I have watched from the very first show. This year is just so drab, the biased marking by the judges gets worse, only enjoyed Danny and some of the Judge and Ed''s routines.
Even this forum has become dull and predictable. Thinking back to Series 7 - Gethin, Alesha. Matt D, Gabby, Kelly and Letitia and one of my favourite SCD contestants John Barnes, even the no-hopers weren't totally annoying. It all went pear shaped when Louise Rainbow and Jason G took over and the props, rubbish music choices and boring, stupid VTs became standard fare. I agree with every word of this. I think that producers, realising that they had a very successful, show, slid into over managing to claim that they, were doing a great job. They missed out why the show was so successful - unpredictability, people learning to dance, quality of dancing, music suited to dances, viewers making decisions and fun that wasn't dependent on props.
As the ratings are high, that illusion continued so more micro managing was piled on, to the extent that viewers can now guess who's going to be in the final four. I've enjoyed seeing some of the celebs learning to dance in this series eg Ed, Rob Rinder, Claudia, Ore and Greg. I think we'll end up with Danny and Louise in the final. However good they are, that was predictable since the beginning. They could liven up the show by changing the entire judging panel and giving them no power to influence results other than making observations after say...week six. However, I think that producers will continue to focus on high ratings regardless of whether or not interest in the show burns out. Easier to say, ' It ran its course' than, ' We made it a wonderful show, took a gamble, lost in the ratings a little but at least we didn't use the show to make ourselves, look good'.

I guess Strictly won't change while it's got good ratings.
Maybe the Beeb don't realise some people aren't watching Strictly because Tess, Fixathons, Ringahs etc are brilliant, it's because X Factor is worse. |

Im still watching and in the main enjoying however it's the weird music choices that have been spoiling it for me. I want to see dances danced to suitable music that enhance the dance and the characterisation. Good dances have been ruined for me by music that doesn't fit/is too fast/undermines the characters (i.e in a paso) and so on. I wish they would give the professionals the choice.

This has been my favourite series since I started watching strictly regularly! The mix of personalities and dance abilities as well as all the ~DRAMA~ that we got early on (eg anastacia not doing DO, Will leaving etc) has made it a great year.

'Bizarre' , I found it sickening, along with a lot of Claudia's music.
![]() Ed has made this series for me - I doubt I'd still be watching but for him. I intend to try and slog through the remaining weeks if only because I've managed to get this far. Not sure I'll stay the course, though.

Danny is NOT a Professionally trained Ballroom and Latin dancer and that is different to stage school dancing.
![]() All this ringa business is making me give them more votes. |

Absolutely seconded - some good dances and some potentially good contestants like Claudia have severely hampered if not ruined by it.
Or maybe I'm just paranoid.
