There are hundreds more.”

To avoid import duties then.
So you can get what you want if you pay more.

Is that free trade?

I don't think free trade exists 100% anywhere.
What trade agreements do you think the UK will secure with the rest of the world?

Do you know any farmers?

I do. I live in a rural area and many of my neighbours are farmers.

They are shi*ing themselves about Brexit. Even the tory voting ones!

Don't believe the crap you read in the right wing tabloids.

Its not for me to speculate about future agreements, I've just pointed out one of the more stupid existing ones.

I don't think 'stupid' is the right word for the reason being related to tariffs.
If you think you can live in a tariff free zone, then you will have a hard job negotiating that.

Then why can I not record more than 29 minutes and 59 seconds? on an HD capable unit?

is that a stupid limitation, or is there legal, trade backed negotiation behind it?

It is an artificial EU arbritated unit of time applied to try and secure competition for high end EU manufactured camera equipment. But Hasselblad does not do a sub $300 video camera so its pointless.

Who cares, it's a technical feature. There is absolutely no need for the EU to wade in with rule after rule about bananas, digital cameras or coffee makers, especially silly 'timers'.

This isn't fake stuff out of the daily mail, this is real examples of silly EU rules.

I used to live next door to a farm, admittedly a long time ago, so yes. Therefore I accept that the rules may have changed in the meantime. I don't read right wing tabloids, as I'm a moderate socialist, so treat papers like The Sun and The Daily Mail as works of fiction in the main.

All import duties help secure competition for locally manufactured products. Are you surprised that the EU wants to help EU manufacturers? Is it somehow bad for EU member states? Do you think the EU should be doing more to help Japanese manufacturers?

This is a real rule. Canon, along with Nikon don't supply HD capable video cameras to the eu because of this

Your original problem has been solved OP, although saying thanks seems to be beyond you. You're just moaning for moanings's sake.

However, the general taxpayer won't have to subsidize the EU. Besides, the UK government can subsidize farmers where necessary. We don't need the EU for that.

You clearly didn't read the opening post as this thread wasn't a request for help to solve a problem, it was a complaint about over reaching unnecessary EU rules and a suggestion that others share their experiences of other silly rules, and we've had more suggestions like the 30 minute recording timer on cameras.

How was the problem solved? import from outside of the EU and pay extra postage, duty and courier fees just to bypass the rules?

The point about coffee makers has been addressed although you don't want to acknowledge it.
On my coffee machine, the on light has failed, so sometimes I don't realise it is on and waste electricity. Had mine been made more recently, it would switch off. A sensible rule.
Why didn't the manufacturer design it to switch off ?

As long as you don't think it will be different when the UK goes alone.
