Why didn't the manufacturer design it to switch off ?”

I wouldn't have a problem if the timer was more reasonable like 90 minutes or if manufacturers could choose for themselves.

why didnt the manufacturers say "put coffee here" and not bother with the expense to the world and the environment of pods?

The manufacturers can choose whatever they want. There has to be a default auto shut-off, but they can have as many other options as they like.

Or they could say. Pot, filter, hot water ... have at it

How does that address my question?
The rule is there because the manufacturer didn't bother.

What has pods got to do with my issue?

Wrong, there has to be a 40 minute shut off from the start of the brew time, there is no way around that. It is that aspect which this discussion is about.

It goes without saying they can make it bright pink with yellow spots if they want, but coffee with a hotplate was designed to keep the jug of coffee warm. I don't believe that 40 mins from the start of the brew is long enough and other have given examples of other silly EU rules like HD cameras which the EU dictate cannot record for the more than 30 minutes.

Is it the manufacturers responsibility to weed out the terminally stupid?

Perhaps you could try reading what I posted in instead of some infantile insult.

If you read the links, you would know that although that is a requirement, it does not stop a manufacturer from providing other modes which last longer.

You try finding one, Amazon reviews are full of people complaining about them shutting off too soon when the coffee would still be perfectly fine to drink 30 minutes after the brew.

and the Digital camera recording limit?

Surely also the whole point of the coffee hotplate is that you want to keep the coffee hot for potentially up to an hour.

Whilst you're pointing tremol to a camera that won't stop recording at 30 minutes which is sold within the EU, can you also point me to a coffee machine with a 1 hour hotplate please.

Thanks

Rather than just grumbling, why don't you try the manufacturers?

Would that be too much effort?

Has it not occurred to you that the retail business is driven by consumer demand, so if you can't find what you want, it might just be because there isn't a demand?

The manufacturers hands are tied and the EU is undemocratic, all the rules which are brought in come from a closed think-tank who are not in any way accountable to the electorate.

As I explained earlier, this thread isn't a request for help on a specific topic, it is to highlight the stupidity of some over the top EU rules. We've had more examples in the thread of silly rules e.g the digital camera recording limit timer.

So why are you asking people to find a product for you (which is what I replied to)?

Brexit will merely replace EU Rules with BSI Rules. Or they will remain Harmonised, cos' it's easier.

To prove a point, that the OP won't be able to find them as part of a reply to that specific post by the user.

Won't be able to find them?

How do you know that?

Have you spoken to the manufacturers?

Now you're just being a troll, the regulations enforce a cut off. Another poster also asked that forum member to point them to a HD digital camera being sold within the EU without the record time timer limit, again it won't be found as the manufacturers hands are tied. Maybe you can point me and the other forum member to the respective products on sale?
