I'm trying to tidy up my iCloud storage and am struggling to find an easy way of looking at the iPhone backups I have there. I use a free app called iPhoneBackupExtractor for backups stored on iTunes and that works very well. However, they require £59 for the version that can do the same for backups stored on iCloud. I don't want to actually restore files, I just want to see what's in each backup so I can delete the whole backup. I've just tried another from iskysoft.com but that just gives me "network error" when I try to access my iCloud account (not too keen on iskysoft either, seems a bit of a spammy company). Can anyone suggest others ?

I didn't get your meaning, why don't you use iTunes?
You can connect your phone to pc and open Itunes. But I don't use iTunes a lot, when manage my iphone or transfer the files to pc, I would use 3-rd party iOS tools. Here I can recommend the mobikin, it has many products for iOS devices, hope it helps.

I think you misunderstand my post. The backups in question are neither on my phone or on my PC (Mac). They are in the cloud. One is 80GB and one is 60GB. I don't really want to download them just to find what's in them.

iCloud backups include Messages which can run into multiple GBs. In addition to this, data from all stock apps is backed up. So rich text notes, voice memos etc. You have some control of what third party app data is backup to iCloud, but not all apps support its usage. If they're done at different times, there'll be different data sets within each backup, explaining the storage differences.

Yes, I fully understand all that. I'm not trying to understand why they're different sizes, I just want to know what's in them so I can delete the least useful one of them to make space in my iCloud storage.

You can go on line and sign in to iCloud.com with any web browser. https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT201104
Hope this helps

Yes, I do that all the time, but you cannot see the contents of your iCloud data there. The nearest you get to it is by going to iCloud Preferences on either the Mac or iPhone and it gives a breakdown of usage in as much as listing 2 backups and their size. That's it. Hence my query.
