Was looking in the upgrade my mobile area on the site.

Found that deal. Saved me £4 a month. 2 friends did it too and it worked.

loses bt wifi from what I could see.

bt wifi and no double speed is £18 now and all new 12 month contracts.

BT WIFI is rubbish anyway is what I've found. Signals are so weak in most cases I switch wifi off otherwise pages stop loading.
Is this deal available via mobile bt app?

The 30gb for £25 is temting plus £50 quidco available. I'm happy with three though and delivers what I need. My wife is on EE and annoyingly she's on 2g quite abit where as I usually have 3G available. She's on a 5s so not 800 VoLTE compatable annoyingly.

I find the opposite. They have the most extensive WiFi of anyone. Park up near a few houses and the chances are you've got BT WiFi.

Yes agreed if it's speed you're after. Although there are places where there is no 4G (or 3G), especially if you spend any time in the wilds of Scotland or Wales. Then there's your data allowance to consider. So although 4G is usually faster, I try to use Wifi where I can.

Not trying to seem petty here, but that just strikes me as slightly creepy. Obviously, BT WiFi from customer Homehubs is for public use by any other participating BT customers, but I sort of imagined it as for maybe house guests either at my house or neighbours or their guests, or maybe if a neighbour has an internet problem, but not to encourage people to park up outside.

I make a fair amount of use of BT WiFi. The Android app does a fairly good job of automatic sign in and it tends to work quite well.

This is what I went for as didn't want to lose the wifi hotspots, but then realised after I'd committed that I wouldn't of lost them after all as they're included in my infinity broadband package anyway.
Still saving £2 a month is better than nothing.

I use wifi hotspots quite often while out working so literally do just park up outside someone's house and occasionally when out and about when network coverage is a bit ropey I them then too, they also came in quite handy when when we moved into our house and our phone line wasn't connect and had no TV aerial etc so connected laptop to TV for Netflix.

Not creepy at all. If people don't want others using their hotspot then they can opt out. If I'm round someone else's house they just give me their WiFi password and I connect direct.

I certainly don't have a problem with it. Just checked my Home Hub logs and 11 people have used mine in the last 24 hours.

The whole idea is that there is lots of WiFi coverage for people to use when they're out and about. There's also the BT WiFi app, so people will be connecting and disconnecting to people's hotspots as they walk down the street.

Not as good as Asda's 20GB for £10, and you could do it twice before 31st December.

You don't even have to be a long standing Asda customer to get it.

Yes, because a 20GB contract that runs for at least 12 months, but in practice for as long as you want it, is "not as good" as a time limited PAYG bundle that you can only get for 3 weeks.

I guess it's also "better" that there is no 4G coverage and no access to a large public wifi network.

That is the unfortunate downside to wifi - especially in the BT home hub version (where they can't control handoffs).

I'd expect a smoother experience on the so called "premium" version - the one in pubs, shopping centres, hotels etc

The combination of BT Wifi-X and Wi-Fi assist seems to work ok. The sign-in is via a configuration profile rather than an app.

The 15GB extra speed option has popped up for me so giving it a try. Getting the full 60Mbps so it seems to be working.

Roll on Wi-Fi calling and VoLTE

I guess I missed the offers as I'm on the 20gb plan and pay £21 a month. I can downgrade to 15gb for £16 but that doesn't give me anything I don't already have.

It's probably for the best. Upgrading your plan will probably lock you into another long contract for every BT service you take from them, assuming you take more than just mobile. Hell, changing channels too fast on BT TV probably commits you to a new 12 month contract with that lot.

I haven't heard of a company extending other service contracts for changing something on a different contract. Have you got a link to show how BT can justify that?

This particular poster appears to work for Sky's PR dept, as almost every post he/she makes is pro-Sky and/or against a competitor to Sky.

I expect now that Sky are launching a mobile service, it will be the best in the country, in their eyes

I've never had that experience with BT mobile and I've been with them since around a month after it launched. For the record I used to work for another ISP that wasn't Sky/BT and still chose BT mobile. I've also never had an issue with their service, either.

I also have Sky TV as I find that having all your eggs in one basket can severely limit your options. Sky does TV best for me, BT mobile does the mobile best for my needs (EE's network with better data allowanceS), BT Infinity (Virgin not available in my area) is the best I could reasonably afford without going to the likes of Zen.

I believe BT mobile is actually unusually flexible in that they actually allow you to downgrade to a lower plan, as a one off, at any time in your contract.

It's a far cry from the days of those automatically renewable contracts (and their attempt to bring in 3 year landline/broadband contracts).

Sky are hardly much better in this regard. They still insist on 12 month contracts on things like multiroom, even when they aren't supplying a box or installation. Pretty sure that major changes to TV or broadband will also cause a renewal of your contract.
