Neighbours - What do you think of Sonya?
There's times I like her but she annoys me so much most of the time.
Toadie just seems to agree with her all the time. Can't wait for Dee to come back. |

I was a fan of Sonya originally but I haven't been a fan of hers for the last few years:
I agree about Dee here's some memorable scenes of Dee: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMn-N1fy-e4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcY_OoS0hyE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GA-xytFW1z4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGJ7ZQuyhDc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpHauyFmZxE |

Can't stand 'Saint' Sonya, easily the worst character on Neighbours, everything has to revolve around her and her need to 'help' people when in reality all she is doing is sticking her nose into things that don't concern her. Sonya has replaced her addictions of gambling etc, with her addiction to 'help' people. Also her marriage to Toadie is so one sided Toadie has to always agree with everything that Sonya wants, also Sonya loves nothing more than playing the victim all the time, hope Toadie gets back together with Dee but he won't he will stick with 'Saint' Sonya, awful, awful character.

Hope little Nell grows up to be more like her Daddy but knowing our luck she'll be Sonya's mini-me.
I don't dislike Sonya most of the time, but she can be very judgemental and sanctimonious sometimes. |

Annoying. Her need to 'help' people is a bit obsessive.

I don't mind her but she's not one of my favourite characters, I wouldn't care if she left so Toadie could shack up with Dee again! So is Toadie still legally married to Dee then? He always seems miserable as sin since taking up with Sonya. It's like she sucks his life force out of him to reenergise her own hyper ways.

50/50 with Sonya. Eve Morey is one of their most talented actresses and her performances have always been breath-taking but the character gets on my nerves at times. I wasn't impressed with her during the surrogacy storyline. I think Sonya will be insufferable during her pregnancy and her reaction to Dee's shocking return.

Being killed off wouldn't do her any harm as far as I'm concerned.
Properly though. Wouldn't want her doing a Dee in a few years time. |

I used to find Sonya annoying especially the way she always railroads Toadie into what ever her latest obsession is.
Since the surrogacy storyline, she's plummeted to penultimate position in the list of characters I hate, behind Dolores Umbridge, Jar-Jar Binks and the idiots from Twilight. We're talking through the bottom of the barrel and heading for the centre of the earth lows here. The fact that she's play by Eve Morely, who is one of Neighbours better actresses and seems really nice in interviews, is the only reason Sonya is not bottom of the list. In case you were wondering, the bottom of the list has been permanently occupied by one character whose very name makes me unreasonably angry on a Bruce Banner scale. This "character" is instantly, I feel, recognisable from a four word quote. "oh. no. poor, libby." |

So when you've all got rid of your 'hated' characters and there's absolutely no tension left between all the nice, uncomplicated, good characters in your perfect little happy ever after world exactly what is it that you imagine the storywriters are going to have to write about? There's a reason that 'they all lived happily ever after' is always the last line of a story. Because it kills the thing stone dead! Wishing a character you don't like out of a drama is like wishing the cocoa out of a chocolate bar or the burger out of Big Mac!

One of my favourite characters is the comics-version of Mystique in the Marvel universe; at her "nicest" she's tried to seduce her beloved adopted daughter's boyfriend because she disapproved of the relationship and at her worst she's attempted to kill said daughter for getting in the way of her schemes. Other great, in my opinion characters who aren't "good" or "nice" would include Paul Robinson, Kim Tate and Draco Malfoy. Sonya herself would be an example of conflict in a story without a villain- she's supposed to be a "good" character doing something to help her friends and sticking to her morals by not taking the morning after pill; the very fact that she's going against what Steph and Mark have asked her to do and she ignored Toadie's doubts create conflict. Ignoring and dismissing the feelings, misgivings and wishes of other characters because she doesn't share them is why I find her detestable. |
