This really bugs me. Lauren Platt performed it on Xmas week and now 5 After Midnight is doing it as well. Plus all the music channels always play it only at Xmas

The thing I don't get is the guy that wrote it was writing about losing his brother to suicide so why does everyone regard it as a Xmas song????? I have never understood this

The same reason as '2 Become 1' is considered a Christmas song, even when it blatantly isn't. It just happened to be Christmas #1 and has a wintery music video.

I was surprised when I heard it was about the singers' brother, I never knew that
I mean, who calls their brother "baby", "Don't you say its the final kiss" etc Were those lyrics put in so you'd think it was a romantic love song?

BIB answers it's own question though if you look at it in a more bleak way.

Simply because it was a Christmas number one and because most people, including TPTB at The X Factor, don't listen to lyrics or give any thought to what a song means. Hence why The X Factor always used to have a young Black female contestant sing Young Hearts Run Free just because it has 'young' in the title, when in fact it's a song about an older woman warning young women not to make the same mistakes that she made when she was young.

The backing track vocals for the chorus are going to be insanely loud. A travesty when presumably they won't be dancing around and shouldn't need assistance.

Yeah I think Tony was inspired by his brother to write the song but clearly the finished product with the "baby" and "kiss" is meant to be interpreted as a love song.

And as for Christmas - well, it's got sleigh bells on it and it gets played every Christmas so it's a Christmas song.

It was released in the run up to Christmas and was the Christmas number one that year. It had a video where the boys were wearing winter coats and there was snow. There are even sleigh bells in the musical arrangement. Hence it's considered a Christmas song, even if that isn't what was intended by the song writer.

Frankie Goes To Hollywood's The Power Of Love is a similar thing - a song that was given a Christmassy video and released in the run up to Christmas, hence being considered a Christmas song.

Godley and Creme did the video and knew it would be No. 1 at Xmas so just decided to make a Nativity film. The band only appeared in a "frame" around the screen.

The great mystic Robbie Williams is having a premonition again everyone. Despite the fact that the vast majority of his predictions are wrong, let's all listen intently.
