Did anyone think the new Take That / let it shine Radio Times, was printed on different, slightly less glossy paper? I am taking about inside and not the cover.

Ours are coming down today. Christmas is over now and what made the house look festive now make it look a mess. |

So as the trees await recycling, the decs are put back in the attic and the listing guides are added to our collections its time to reflect on Christmas TV 2016 - what went right , what went wrong.
Overall it looked better on paper than in reality but having a bug making me sleep and spending a lot of time in the bathroom may make me not be in the mood for some of the progs ratings across the board are pretty low but hopefully people are waiting to see wht others thought before catching up - anyway here are my top 5 5 - Carols from King's - the young organist blew me away 4 - Mrs Brown's Boys - a bit under par this year I thought again may be because so was I 3 - Billy Elliott the Musical - brilliant performance from the young Billy and cast 2 - Railway Children Theatre Production - Loved the film and this was a good adaptation BUT Way Out In Front 1- Peter Pan Goes Wrong - Just the tonic. laugh out loud hope the BBC commission more So whats your top 5 TV of the last 2 weeks (i will convert them into points and then at end of week see who our combined top 5 is ) post here or Pm if you want up till Friday night Also nominations please for Best Unexpected hit of the festive period (one you didnt think youd enjoy) Most Unexpected flop of the festive period (one you were looking forward to but didnt live up to expectations) |

1) Victorian Bakers at Christmas - a surprise that Im not even saw it advertised
2) The Last DragonSlayer 3) Eastenders - over Christmas was a lot of happy and fun stories - New year back to madness 4) Loads of football on sky q that kept many happy and sky q was great for everyone to throw loads at it for watching as they wanted, where they wanted - very busy household here over christmas and my guests loved it 5) Christmas Uni challenge Best Unexpected hit of the festive period : Victorian Bakers at Christmas Most Unexpected flop of the festive period : We're Going on a Bear Hunt - just a bore! Ethel and Ernest did not do anything for us either, got a big thumbs down and we gave up watching before it ended Doctor Who was terrible too, not sure why I bother to think it will get any better, well it will when Peter Capaldi goes and they start getting back to some better writing |

Decorations are down, packed away and back up in the loft. The street has lost its colour and sparkle. Tomorrow is another holiday here in Scotland, so last day of the holidays tomorrow.
A family member posted some pictures on Facebook earlier today, of a Christmas day party, that we didn't go to (this year it was the wife's family for Christmas). It seems all so long ago now. This time last week was Boxing day, and we braved Storm Conor to drive through to the west to my family. As I said, it all seems so long ago now. As for the tv, well, in my opinion, it was really poor. I genuinely cannot think of five programmes to list. Maigret on STV was good, although I had downloaded it and watched during the week. Masterchef in the week leading to Christmas was enjoyable. Celtic beating Rangers was very enjoyable ![]() As for the worse, Witness for the Prosecution. I have said enough about that elsewhere, so won't repeat it again. I didn't even bother with Sherlock. So, here we go again, another year to look forward to, and more milestones throughout the year to lead us towards Christmas 2017. Have a great year everyone. |

I thought the TV was mostly rubbish this Christmas hope 2017 is better. However I did find a few thing.
Hank Zipser on CBBC was a fun show to watch with my children and deserved a showing on BBC one. Outnumbered not the best episode but still one of the Funniest things that was on over the fortnight. Revolting Ryhmes good family take on fairy tales and the best animation over the fortnight Jonathan Creek was a decent watch and back on form after the disappointing 2014 series. Hopefully more are made soon. The highlight for me though was Peter Pan goes wrong. It showed exactly what has been missing from Christmas TV a good old fashioned comedy pantomime that the whole family can enjoy. All of them are fantastic actors and I hope the BBC continues to work with them as this was the only outstanding thing on all channels over Christmas. |

Christmas TV 2016
My first post having read and enjoyed the thread for many a year. My top five:
1 Stella 2 Last Tango in Halifax 3 Sherlock 4 To Walk Invisible 5 Delicious Unexpected hit - The Real Marigold On Tour Unexpected flop - Outnumbered I must confess I've also had the lurgy since Boxing Day so I haven't watched everything but I was somewhat disappointed by some of the big hitter shows: Maigret and Jonathan Creek could have also gone in as flops. Like Marke09 that could be down to being under the weather - a lot of the comedies didn't raise the expected laughs. |

Christmas 2017
Now that Christmas is over,I have been wondering how a schedule can actually entice viewers to watch a particular channel. Ratings at Christmas are not low because the programming is crap, they are low because nothing is must see. There is no big event on Christmas day anymore. And looking at the BBC's cupboard, there is nothing potentially big that could be used this year either. The best thing the BBC could do is air AbFab The Movie on Christmas day after Mrs. Brown's Boys. But this would involve the BBC to be daring and sacrifice Call the Midwife or Doctor Who or both. Maybe something like this: CHRISTMAS EVE: 2.55pm Film: Frozen 4.30 Songs of Praise: The Christmas Big Sing 5.15 Countryfile Christmas Special 6.15 BBC News, Regional News 6.40 Christmas Pointless 7.30 EastEnders 8.00 Call the Midwife 9.15 Outnumbered (NEW) 10.00 Film: Mrs. Brown's Boys D'Movie 11.30 BBC News 11.45 Midnight Mass CHRISTMAS DAY 12.25 Film: Monsters University 2.00 Top of the Pops 3.00 The Christmas Speech 3.10 Film: Maleficent 4.40 The Highway Rat 5.05 BBC News 5.15 Strictly Come Dancing 6.30 Doctor Who 7.30 Michael McIntyre's Big Christmas Show 8.30 EastEnders 9.30 Mrs. Brown's Boys 10.00 Film: Abfab The Movie 11.35 BBC News This gives both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day a fresher mix of variety, entertainment and comedy. Sadly though, I think Boxing Day will look like this: BOXING DAY: 7.00pm Celebrity Mastermind 7.30 EastEnders 8.00 Holby City 9.00 Agatha Christie Drama 10.00 BBC News 10.20 Match of the Day I can't foresee much effort being made on Boxing Day as they have made a lot of effort these past two years and it didn't pay off. |

Or it could be that now that viewers have more choice of what to watch, with Netflix, Amazon etc and all various ways of catching up with programmes that less people feel the need to actually watch mainstream TV on Christmas Day.
The consolidated figures have been released today and the most watched Christmas Day programme was....................... Call the Midwife with 9.21m viewers! Not only that it had a very high Audience appreciation figure of 88/100 which probably means it will stay on Christmas Day for the near future. |

Spooks the greater good and Bill are both due to be shown this year is well so while I doubt either will be Christmas day there is a small possibility of Christmas eve or boxing day.
Peter Kay car share and not going out both have new series this year so I would not be surprised if one or both get specials on Christmas Eve. I can also see the new porridge series getting a Christmas special. Drama wise I would try giving both death in paradise and line of duty Christmas episodes for the days between Christmas and new year. If call the midwife can get a Christmas special no reason why them to dramas can't. I would also do drama of something like George's marvelous medicine for boxing day. BBC1 is missing a good impressions show and before they were famous something along them lines need bringing back and give the mischief theatre company more commissions after the success of Peter goes wrong |
