1) Ethel & Ernest
2) Marigold
3) Grantchester
4) Revoltng Ryhmes
5) The Lion King

Best Unexpected hit of the festive period : Harry Potter films - won all its slots.
Most Unexpected flop of the festive period : Birds of a feather. Doctor Who (piss poor)
Birds got 3.4 m Grantchester not much more at 3.7m but not bad these days and for Christmas Eve.

They are terrible ratings for Christmas Eve, especially when Skyfall in 2014 got 7.2m

Grantchester would have done better on Boxing Day.

Few things here Saturday 23rd Football Focus and final score will definitely both be on as normal on BBC one and no way will Top of the Pops be moved from Christmas day especially for risky animation such as Etheal and Ernest. Any film premier on that day will be no earlier than 5:20 either. The Strictly final will be the week before as part of winners weekend again.
There probably wont be any fixtures Saturday 23rd December, so no need for FF and Final Score.

I think they will be a full fixture list that day no reason why they should not be it happened before on the 23rd has been a Saturday so I would imagine everything would be as normal.

From your early replies there is one programme that at moment is way out ahead as your favourite while 4 programmes each are tying for unexpected hit and flop

If you have not yet voted - what were your five favourite programmes on TV this Christmas period (ending New year's Day and also your unexpected hit (one you didnt expect to like) and your unexopected flop (the one you were looking forward to but was a bit of a let down )

Leave your lists below or PM me by Friday night - results Saturday

Last time we had a Monday Christmas Day was 2006 and we had full fixtures on 23rd 26th 30th and 1st although SKY were not as dominant in the TV market as they are now so there could be some changes

Does anyone know where you find ratings for tv programmes? I'd be interested to see how "The Nativity" and "Carols from Kings" on BBC both fared.

Just found the cover of the Christmas edition in the spare room. Thought I'd throw the whole thing out. Aah, I miss Christmas!

Yep I expect so too. The only time I can recall there not being fixtures scheduled when Dec 23rd fell on a Saturday was 1989, when the only game was Liverpool v Man United (shown on delay by ITV). Since then it has been a Saturday in 1995, 2000 and 2006 and each time there has been a full round of matches scheduled. Obviously some games may be moved to the Friday night though.

The most watched show Christmas Eve got 5.6m, the UK TV premiere of Skyfall in 2014 was a bit different to Christmas eps of a drama and a comedy and Dr Who this year came in at 7 out of 10 in Christmas Day programmes same position as last year.

Question re Christmas for ALL.

Your a channel controller, you can choose if BBC/ITV /4/5 etc, any or all.

Now we need to keep this as close to reality as possible, so you can't bring back say Two Ronnies if they are no longer alive, and you have to watch your budgets.

If you were the boss, what would you commission? It's January, and in your inbox is the Holiday ratings, you have to commission Christmas 2017.

Based on 2016, you can commission on a like for like basis. So you can replace Michael McIntyre with another LE show, or replace Witness for the prosecution with another Two hours of drama.

Celebrity Mastermind can be replaced with a ten part half hour quiz or show.

If you drop continuing drama like Holby or EastEnders, they equal 50% of new drama, so Holby being dropped for an hour gives you thirty minutes of new drama.

So what would you go out and commission, but if New you have to watch your budgets and cancel something else. You only have a set budget.

1] Lady in the Van
2]Ethel and Ernest
3]Inside no 9
4]To Walk Invisible
5]Sherlock
Unexpected hit Real Marigold on Tour [Florida]
unexpected flop Coronation Street-xmas day

Generally a fairly average year but there was something for everyone spread over the fortnight.

Looks like more fixtures than ever so it's likely to cut into Christmas TV schedules.

Top Shows.

1) Ethel and Ernest-better than I was expecting.
2) Peter Pan Goes Wrong-absolutely hilarious. Planning to see The Play That Goes Wrong, also by the same production company, in a couple of weeks' time.
3) Paul O'Grady's Favourite Fairy Tales-some interesting insights into classic fairy tales.
4) Cutthroat Island-considered a flop on its release, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching it on catch-up on New Year's morning.
5) Swiss Family Robinson-again, quality family viewing on New Year's Eve.

Best Unexpected hit of the festive period : Ethel and Ernest-enjoyed it far more than I was expecting to.
Most Unexpected flop of the festive period : We're Going On A Bear Hunt. I liked it, but it was a bit underwhelming, overall. Won't stop Channel 4 from repeating it ad nauseum every Christmas, though.

Christmas Turkey award- A Christmas Proposal, American TV movie on Channel 4. Easily the worst film I watched on TV over the festive period.

I was also a bit dissapointed with Revolting Rhymes. felt it could've and should've been handled better.

Regarding films, I also rather enjoyed Mr Peabody and Sherman-can't believe they got away with that "touch yourself" line, brilliant!

My top five:

1] Inside no 9
2]Strictly Christmas special
3]London fireworks display
4]Captain Phillips
5]Amazing Spaces Snow Special

Unexpected hit: Royal Institute Christmas Lectures - haven't watched these for years but was nice to catch them this time
Unexpected flop: Bear Hunt - boring and didn't suit a Christmas Eve at all

There have been better years but there's been a lot worse too

Thoroughly enjoyed my Christmas however

roll on the next one lol

Its getting interesting now - from being way out in front another programme is catching up fast ti be crowned favourite programme and it looks like there is now also a clear winner for unexpected flop

If not voted yet you have until 9pm Friday just need your top 5 progs and then the unexpected hit - one you werent expecting to enjoy and the unexpected flop - one you were hoping would have been better

I did post a few days ago that most of the telly seemed to be rubbish, but I don't want to appear a total grumpy box, so here are my 4. I genuinely cannot think of a fifth!

1. Maigret
2. Masterchef the Professionals.
3. Pop Quiz
4. The Dads Army Story (repeat)

Surprise - Pop Quiz

Worse Witness for the Prosecution.

1) Ethel and Ernest
2) Jonathan Creek
3) Call The Midwife
4) Sherlock
5) Last Tango in Halifax

Surprise hit - Outnumbered.

Biggest disappointment - All of Christmas Eve TV. I remember the days when Christmas Eve telly felt magical, in an era when schedulers knew what shows worked on certain days and why. This year, like last year, Christmaseve felt like they had a few things left to place so just plonked them on Christmas eve. No family movie in the evening, no big event to see, nothing that suggested that Christmas wasabout to start, other than Michael McIntyre that should have been on on Christmas night instead of Bake Off. But the one programme that I found wholly disappointing over Christmas was Witness for the Prosecution. It was dull, dreary and depressing.

Is there anybody out there that could give me the one missing answer I've been looking for in regards to the Picture Quiz in RT's Christmas 2016 edition?
I have found 49 of the 50 in this picture: http://www.radiotimes.com/uploads/im...nal/124401.jpg

1 Would I Lie To You
2 War and Peace
3 The Grand Tour
4 EU Referendum coverage
5 Top Gear
6 The Archers
7 Red Dwarf
8 Happy Valley
9 Only Connect
10 All Aboard! Country Bus
11 Versailles
12 The Apprentice
13 Fleabag
14 Cold Feet
15 Porridge
16 US Election coverage
17 Robot Wars
18 The Night Manager
19 The X Factor
20 The Durrells
21 National Treasure
22 Gardener's World
23 EastEnders
24 Poldark
25 Antiques Roadshow
26 Rio Olympics 2016
27 Paralympics 2016
28 Hairy Bikers: Chicken and Egg
29 The Missing
30 Stranger Things
31 Line of Duty
32 Strictly Come Dancing
33 Coronation Street
34 Earth II
35 Game of Thrones
36 The Level
37 Are You Being Served
38 Peaky Blinders
39 Tutankhamun
40 Westworld
41 The Young Pope
42 Victoria
43 Gogglebox
44 James May: The Reassembler
45 The Crown
46 The Great British Bake Off
47 Countryfile
48 Call the Midwife
49 Humans
50 ? ? ?

I'm not sure where I'm supposed to be looking for that extra clue, is it the yellow flower under the X Factor? The blue square partially obscured by the cyclist's red helmet? Or is it the roofing area (looks like writing?) directly above Strictly's Joanne Clifton? Or anything along those lines...?
So any help would be appreciated.

ITV had 101 Damations and Ch4 had Muppets Christmas Carol on Christmas Eve. Both great family films.

I know you are more BBC inclined, but there were other options available that another episode of Pointless to watch.
