why are only london studios used for most of the shows these days, why not use different part of the uk which has studios, people up north will never get a chance to be in the audience due to distance, having it in different areas will have different people in audience that can enjoy things. i bet the same people goto all the recordings when in london

Simon just acknowledged the studio's demise on X Factor and said it was sad they were knocking it down, which was a nice touch.

Countdown, Question of Sport, Jeremy Kyle, Still Open All Hours and other shows are done in Manchester
Mrs Brown's Boys, Still Game and the lottery quiz shows in Glasgow as well as Eggheads but they don't have an audience Deal or No Deal in Bristol The BBC also does other shows for which you can get tickets in Cardiff and Belfast Apply for tickets to the BBC, ITV or C4 |

I take your point - I was actually thinking of the larger production studios. BBC Plymouth was re-equipped for HD this year by the way.
Ealing although owned by the BBC for a while was never used for regular live tx, but is still in use today for various TV and film work. ITV has the Leeds studios first opened in 1968 of which some are still working, Ulster / UTV has been mentioned already. News studios at Anglia and TWW / HTV Bath Road, Bristol must be the other oldest still in use? |

Studio A Bristol which used to be the home of Johnny Morris and Tony Hart is long gone; C1 Cardiff is scheduled to close and there is talk of a new BBC HQ in Belfast.

There really are so few large studios left now.
It'll be interesting to see how this one in Acton does, near the old BBC OB base. It doesn't have built in facilities, so it hopefully has been designed for easy drive in rigs. I hope the staff at Fountain Studios have already found other work, there were some good folk there who should be very employable elsewhere. |

Television has changed and the days when eight studios at TV Centre were all busy are just a distant memory. Makes you wonder what some of the ITV companies who had several studios like STV, Anglia, ATV, HTV and Granada were doing with them all the time.

Now studio sitcoms are a rare breed, and dramas are mainly shot on location. |

The BGT live shows are scheduled for May, so that’s when we’ll first see them onscreen. Followed by The X Factor in October. Quote:
i thought the x factor was taking a year out ? or have i got the wrong information?
![]() ITV have re-signed with The X Factor for the next 3 years (a joint deal with BGT). Quite sad to see (most of) BBC Television Centre, Teddington Studios and Fountain Studios all being knocked down in the past few years. All historic TV studios, but that’s life I suppose. |

I first went there in the mid sixties to see 5 O'Clock Club (Muriel Young and Wally Whyton) The first went out live on the Monday, then they recorded the midweek edition.

Just looked this facility up online - not far from Fountain Studios in Wembley then.

Even with the closure of Fountain Studios, there are still many others left in London.
Other than News cupboards in Birmingham, I can't think of any studios there. Ridiculous for a city of over 1m people. The Midlands is very badly served. |

Isn't BBC 1's Doctors made in Birmingham ? A far cry from the days of Pebble Mill however. And the BBC Birmingham OB is long gone.
