EE: SOC all is forgiven
That was the best episode all year! I did a thread the other day saying what the hell has happened to Eastenders and I am sorry for that because I knew tonight's episode from the beginning was building up to something I'm so glad I tuned in and not switched off like I threatened the other day.
I apologise EE was amazing tonight! |

Because of one scene in a rather mundane and rather tedious episode everything is forgiven, sorry but that sound hypocritical after your comments in the other thread.

Until it back to being mundane, still long way to go.

I always said that some people need to be patient and enjoy the low-key moments first. EastEnders is a character-driven show and there shouldn't be sensationalism 24/7. I enjoyed the twist tonight and it helps that I cared for everyone during the hostage situation.

You clearly like sensationalist storylines and drama all the time so I am just saying to save you time complaining why don't you watch shows that you may find more interesting than EastEnders because EastEnders isn't about sensationalism and edge-of-your-seat drama all the time it has a community feel and it is meant to make viewers relate to characters.
I know everything changes but EE has done a total 180 in the last decade, would it be wrong to hope for some gritty kitchen sink drama to rear its head on occasion. |

Ok ill give you my honest opinion, I grew up with the original Eastenders, gritty drama and very little sensationalism, then the Corrie effect happened years of blandness followed by years of EP's trying to create bigger and better set pieces, stunts and thrown in with it loads of sensationalism.

Well at least it disproves the perception that SOC can't do sensationalist plots. I think Lee's going to go out with quite a bang.

I had a feeling all along that SOC was keeping things deliberately quiet before pulling off a big moment. During other episodes, they need to work on the cliffhangers, dodgy camera angles and pack a bit more meat into the writing but it was a very good "bait" tonight. Reel the audience in with impression that nothing dramatic would happen.
"Quiet before the storm" and unpredictability might be SOC's strong points. While I appreciate the renewed community feel and warmer elements, there does need to be balance at times. I loved the comedy of ladies night beforehand. It was the most interesting Kathy has been since she returned. Don't care much about Bex/Shakil but all-in-all, it packed a punch. That's really important for episodes this season in the build-up to Christmas and New Year. |

I can't agree. A couple of good scenes do not make up for month after month of bingate, darts, Shex, and the Christmas play.
