Morrisons are doing a turkey leg and thigh for £1.50. I just die a thigh in the pressue cooker with carrots,. celery and onions. Job done, and tasty too.

I'm wary of cheap meat, rather have a small amount of better quality than a lot of cheap meat. And definitely prefer to be aware of the source of my meat.

I suppose these bits are coming off turkeys that have just had the breast removed. Some people just buy the breast - or crown as some call it.

I actually prefer thigh meat to breast. It's much tastier.

I only like white meat from poultry. The thought of brown meat is yuck.

The brown meat from poultry is better in a curry or casserole

£1.50 is not a cheap meal imo!

Leg and thigh meat is a huge problem in the poultry Industry, as the white breast meat is more highly prized, especially by retailers.

£1.50 for a turkey leg is not the sole cost of one meal - the amount of meat on one leg would feed several people in a casserole.
Just need to throw in a few veggies and some stock.

I bought a stand-alone turkey leg a few years ago from Sainsbury because it seemed dirt cheap.......but I never ate it. It didn't smell very nice and I just didn't fancy it

In the olden days when I still lived with Mum I always had leg at Christmas dinner but that last experience put me off turkey for good

Thigh meat is better for you, it contains more iron and vitamins. Long slow cook and it's very like lamb. Roasts nicely too.

This made me laugh - imagining a turkey standing on one leg.

We've actually bought these quite a few times although it was when it was a packet of 2 for £3 (so same cost). Loads of meat on them and tastes nice. My husband cooks one then chops it up and adds it to a stir fry, or slow cooker dish. The other goes in a the freezer for another day

I agree.

I usually buy an extra large whole turkey for Christmas, that way I have much more white meat. I then give the legs/thighs to my pets.

Legs contains more calories and twice the amount of fat than lean breast meat.

And at £1.50 for a leg one heck of a lot of water.

Well if you really want to avoid calories you could eat cardboard - much the same as turkey breast imho!
I sometimes roast up or braise a leg - makes excellent soup and a few extra calories is just what I need in this weather!

So now we're not just debating which meats are healthier than others - i.e. white v red - we're debating which parts of the healthy meat are healthier than the other bits of the healthy meat. 😳
Life's too short boys and girls. Eat what you enjoy, exercise and stay fit.

I prefer lean meat with less fat. You get what you pay for. I only like the breasts of chicken/turkey.

That's apart from me not eating turkey until Christmas day

Turkey every Xmas surely like me some of you lot must be fed up with It. Something different like grilled fresh salmon strakes. Forget Xmas tasteless pudding how about fresh ice cream with fresh or frozen red berries. I love Eaton mess
Without the egg whites or meringues

Nothing wrong with going against tradition at Christmas, but grilled salmon, berries and ice-cream is a pretty standard weekday summertime supper for me.

White meat can easily turn out quite dry, and if you want to do curry or something like that forget about breasts, legs are the best. Although turkey legs have very thick tendons that I can't be bothered with, so it's chicken thighs for me.

Yes, you do get what you pay for.
Does that mean you don't buy a whole chicken?
I use every scrap of the carcass for stock after we've eaten all the meat.
