Trump Provokes China - Calls Leader of Taiwan
Quote:
"President-elect Trump spoke with President Tsai Ing-wen of Taiwan, who offered her congratulations," according to a readout of the call released by Trump's transition team. http://uk.businessinsider.com/trump-...6-12?r=US&IR=T"During the discussion, they noted the close economic, political, and security ties" between Taiwan and the United States, the statement continued. "President-elect Trump also congratulated President Tsai on becoming President of Taiwan earlier this year." The call, first reported by the Financial Times, is the first time a US president has directly spoken with Taiwan's leadership in more than 30 years. The White House was not made aware of the call until after it occurred, an administration official told Business Insider. The US suspended formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan in 1979 after establishing a One China position — which states that "there is but one China and Taiwan is part of China" — in an effort to establish diplomatic channels with Beijing. Uh oh. After of course phoning the Prime Minister of Pakistan yesterday, saying what a wonderful country it was and how he couldn't wait to visit the place (infuriating India), now has broken a longstanding US-China protocol in being the first president to speak to Taiwan in since 1979. China are now pissed and wanting to set up a meeting with the Whitehouse immediately. Well its going to be an interesting 4 years at least whatever it is. |

For once im on Trumps side, i support Taiwan and think China are way too controlling on issues like this. If Trump intends to stand up to China over the way they bully Taiwan and Hong Kong into submission then i support him on this one issue.

The aim of US policy is to prevent an invasion of Taiwan by reducing tensions. - because that invasion would now end in success , and /or sinking US carriers. |

Just reading Wiki about Taiwan and China refuses to have diplomatic relations with any nation that recognizes Taiwan.
Something to do with a one China policy. The Whitehouse have said they knew nothing about the call until China got in contact with them. |

Why the hell should China dictate to an American President (nearly) who he should talk to ? Getting too big for their boots I think.

china still considers taiwan to be part of china and that has been the official US policy for 40 years taiwan has just elected a party that wants to push for full independent status, say they do actually push for that now because the US president has recognised them by default china wont let that happen and take military action, do the US then have to intervene on taiwan's side ? |

The article says they talked, so what? Quote:
Mr Trump tweeted on Friday that Ms Tsai had called him to congratulate him on winning the US election.
They called him. What should he have done? Refused to take the call?Quote:
Following media reports pointing out the risks of angering China, Mr Trump tweeted: "Interesting how the US sells Taiwan billions of dollars of military equipment but I should not accept a congratulatory call."

Trump did not do it on his own. The military and CIA must have told him to do it. America wanted to make a U-Turn in politics, and that's why Trump got elected. They needed someone new and fresh to take over, someone willing to execute orders without asking too many questions.
