I vowed never to vote lib dem again after the tutition fees row. But if there was a by-election tomorrow i would break that vow to show my displeasure at brexit.
I would normally vote labour, but i live in a very safe tory seat which no one else has any chance of winning, but lib dems tend to come second. Maybe if enough tory voters swiched alligence as well...? Our MP is very vocally pro-brexit. Quote:
Exactly if enough of us switch our votes to the remain candidate we will kill brexit forever. The situation is very similar where I am - Tories usually win but the Libs always come second. I know a lot of Tory friends here who say they will back remain candidates to stop brexit.

Heartley-Brewer takes Olney to task in this interview and gets cut off by Olneys PR officer.
http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/739...Hartley-Brewer It's funny when questioned democracy is a two way street and the liberals don't like it. |

The difference is that Olney can be thrown out in 2020. Brexit is for ever. Hartley Brewer is stupid to not know the difference.
The only one who looked stupid was Olney-massively.How shes ever going to cope with Neil,I dont know. Then again she seems to be learning from the storming off school of wet blanket Owen Jones. |

Olney should just have laughed it off. She was a bit pathetic having a snowflake moment and melting away without a word. I tremble for her if she ever has to face a really tough interviewer. But, as you say, she's probably a one-win-wonder. |

I will post links to those polls in a few hours when I'm on my computer and not my smartphone. And no they are not wrong, they are well outside of the margin of error - it's very clear REMAIN WOULD 100% WIN a second referendum. I'd put my house on it.
The referendum was held on 23rd June 2016 and we had notice as well as a campaign lasting at least six months. LEAVE won incidentally. |

I doubt if she doesn't know the difference. She is not trying to draw a direct analogy - she's just showing Olney how the Lib Dems' tantrums look to most people who witness them.

To be honest neither Olney nor JHB came across well.
The interview was a brilliantly executed piece of perfect sarcasm. And Julia Hartley-Brewer carried it out beautifully ! |

I disagree - JHB was clearly trying to draw a direct comparison. olney is clearly a bit green and should have handled it better but then she had been up all night so maybe shd was just having a one-off. I think the test will come when she is next faced with an aggressive interviewer asking stupid questions. If she is worth her salt, she will learn from this. She deserves a chance.
Olney had no way of responding except to agree that the arguments the Lib Dems spout against the Leave vote are ridiculous. Maybe she softly and suddenly vanished away because she realised this.

After losing Scottish votes, very interesting to see labour being bitten off by two ends, Lib Dems and UKIP.

The polls show a significant majority now want to stay in the EU. Also remember a majority of eligible voters did not vote for brexit.
My mate from the Erewash region has said there's so much anger about what's going on in elitist London (i.e deliberate attempts at trying to stall Brexit) that Gina Miller is the new name for the boogie man! |

One poll, conducted by the Remain supporting Independent has suggested 51% would vote Remain and 49% would vote leave. But the caveat is that evidence suggests that by and large nobody has changed their mind overall and the poll also doesn't take into consideration the"don't knows" which could swing it massively for either side.

These remain idiots can conduct as many straw polls as they like, the one that mattered, they lost.
There will not be a second referendum. IF there is another question asked to the public, the possible answers have to be: 1. Accept the Deal 2. Leave without a Deal There cannot be an option to stay after everything that has happened. I think that would force a lot of the remain side to back to the Government because it's the least worst option for them. Naturally folk on this forum won't stop moaning no matter what happens but it's about the folk who don't give a stuff what we think on this forum. |

The difference is that a referendum on terms of exit is theoretically possible, and would not be asking the same question as the first one.
How for example would it know what bits of an exit deal I might settle for and what bits I might want sent back to the negotiation table? How would it know if I even want to leave? The EU would simply do what they did with Cameron, ie basically offer us sod all and say take it or leave it wouldn't they? Say we did have a second referendum and turned down the deal. Short of that all happening within 12 months of triggering article 50 what happens then? I'm lead to believe that once the 2 years has elapsed it's so called "Hard Brexit" and tariff time whether we like it or not and you don't get a second Article 50 window and another 2 years. If it's in the EU's interest that we don't leave they aren't going to offer us a thing and they'll be in no rush to do it. With the SNP, the Lib-Dems, the Greens and Labour all talking along the lines of staying in or insisting on retaining things that we could only keep by staying in, the EU will simply do the numbers and conclude that offering us nothing but the exit door could very easily swing a 52-48% decision the other way. Those parties calling for soft Brexits, remaining in the single market, second referendums or no Brexit at all have absolutely rejected June's referendum decision. They'll deny it naturally. They'll claim they respect the will of the people whilst at the same time telling everybody that said majority was too stupid to know what they were actually voting for and that they have a moral duty to save us all from their collective stupidity. But unless they are so totally naïve as to not realize they've now sent our negotiation team in to bat in a rigged game then that's exactly what they've done. The last couple of lines of Hotel California have never been so apt. As for Brillo supposedly giving Bitzer(?) a hard time on the Daily Politics.... did he hell. He simply asked him some direct questions on democracy that he would rather weren't asked. Unfortunately for Farron he didn't have to answer them. We know the answer because as the saying goes, sometimes actions speak louder than words. Oh... and if anyone is wondering about the name Bitzer. I believe that's the name of the dog on Shaun the Sheep. Farron - like Ed Miliband has a certain Aardman Animation quality about him. I can't quite pin down which one he reminds me of when he smiles that toothy wide mouth smile of his. I'm torn between said dog and the tortoise off the "creature comforts" shorts. |

The flaw in your cunning plan is that there're far more people that want to leave the EU than want to stay.
If the referendum result is replicated at a general election, then it would be a massive landslide for the party (tories) in favour of upholding the will of the people. May is playing this exactly how a Conservative remain PM should and can only play, it was never going to be easy trying to hold the party together and meet the demands of the minority Conservative right. ![]() I don't get this you lost EU referendum, so shut up mentality, it's not how British democracy works and never has.

As long as they accept that we are leaving the EU, then they have respected the referendum decision. That includes going for a soft Brexit, as we would still be out of the EU.

I thought it was good when Andrew called one of the MPs out over trying to play for time by waffling on.
It is not only annoying when they don't answer a question but also when they talk slowly and waffle on, taking up the time of the other people there. |

I think there maybe a 2nd referendum but not on Brexit, the issue is now accepted by both parties capable of putting a major roadblock in the way. We are leaving no matter what the SNP or Lib Dems say.

Leave without a Deal = Leave the EU and reject FOM. We've already answered this, are these Remoaners academically challenged?. |
