Eh? Not at all. I'm gay and I think about tea more than I think about sex.
All I'm saying is that people have difficulty seeing beyond their own experience. So, if their experience is very black and white and unquestioning, they may well expect others to be very black and white too. If, however, your experience is of something a little more ambiguous, or fluid, or even if you just went through a formative period of attempting to convince yourself you could be straight because it would be 'easier' (as I did, at an older age than Matt FWIW), then you more readily understand that solid, unambiguous and unchanging sexual identifications for a lot of people are more complicated and tend to reveal themselves gradually rather than in some sort of grand epiphany.
