I took it he was insinuating that Louis is gay, seeing as there have been (as yet unfounded) rumours about that for years because he isn't married and hangs around with boybands etc. I appreciate that he is friends with Louis and so it's almost banter, but it wasn't called-for whether he said it half-jokingly or not.
I don't think Simon would have tried to suggest anything about Matt's sexuality though; he surely knows that sort-of thing could massively damage his reputation?

I don't quite get this, if we believe the article they're already out to friends and family so whoever it is is clearly comfortable with it. And there's nothing wrong with speculation because there's nothing wrong with being gay.

Why would you speculate, thought? What does it matter who someone's sleeps with? How does it impact your perception of him? Why would it need to be public knowledge? What entitles you to ask about it?

Alright, I don't think it's right to speculate about sexuality personally, but this might be tied up with the fact that I also hate gossip of every kind so you might be onto something there. That being said, it's each to their own.

I think the thing is that he doesn't have to be open about it. You don't even have to be open about it in a lifestyle where you're not in the public eye. I think it doesn't imply shame, sometimes it's just good judgement. Society is still inherently homophobic on some levels, even though I'm delighted that it has improved way more than I thought possible.

Iirc, Joe was strongly discouraged from coming out during the show. He ended up coming out quite quickly afterwards, possibly due to the rags giving himself chance to tell his side of the story otherwise they'd do it anyway, and his career as a teeny bopper heart throb was killed stone dead

Never thought of his as gay but now you mention it, his fawning/over-reaction when receiving praise from the judges isn't very masculine.

What i was thinking. I think Initially their eyes lit up when they saw him as he looks a lot like Louis from 1D. I dont mind him, but he isn't that strong as a singer. Some good weeks like *WOTW* but nothing else i really enjoyed much. Grotty song choices aside from that one.
