I wish people would not ask what does it matter about gay relationships. Since the days of Hollywood silent films, fans have discussed, speculated about and got excited about stars and anyone who is a celebrity is talked about. Their relationships sell millions of newspapers and magazines. If Matt were married to a woman or had a girlfriend she would be mentioned and included in publicity and press articles. She would not usually be invisible.
Gay people are right to say that when the publicity machine suppresses these kind of relationship or fling stories just because someone is gay or bi, then it is not treating being gay as equal and normal but as something that is considered at best uncommercial and at worst something to be ashamed of. We have legal equality but being gay is still not accepted by everyone, especially among certain religious minorities and immigrants from less progressive cultures. A lot of gays are still scared to come out because of where the live. Not everywhere in Britain is like Soho.
It never occurred to me Matt might be gay or bi. It definitely occurred to me that Freddie is probably gay. If he likes hugging Matt and gave him a kiss that is fine as long as Matt likes it. If they are close, then great. But it's also showbusiness and in showbusiness, especially with younger people, nearly everyone straight or gay hugs and kisses and is tactile particularly when they are in intense reality shows stressing out. Even Simon Cowell hugs everyone, last night he kissed Sharon in the middle of the show and he is the least tactile guy ever.
