I am an educated, well informed Brit who loves my country. I don't want to subject the UK to unnecessary 'self harm' and unnecessary decline.

Then why do you want to allow uncontrolled immigration and allow the EU to tell us what to do?

On the contrary, us 'Remoaners' take the future of our country very seriously. We know what we are talking about. Anyone who threatens our future will be challenged very robustly...joke or otherwise.
It's not your country, it's the Brexiters, didn't you see the referendum result about how the meek have inherited British earth.

PMSL How do I get the tea out of my keyboard? Oh and could you confirm whether the socks were held up by suspenders.

This result was not the one that should have happened. We need to have another by-election and then hopefully we'll get the result we wanted. There has been a rise in hate crime since Sarah Olney was elected. A future without Zac Goldsmith will be an absolute disaster for our country. There is already a petition underway for a second by-election. This one was only advisory!
As pointed out in the first reply, fixed term parliament Act has it in hand, 2020 is the date, normally in May. Sure there are other elections in the meantime to register your professional discourse.
You really did not think this one out did you, nothing learnt from EU referendum, you know what repeating the same mistakes leads too...

So the next false argument from the Remain group is the suggestion that a public vote is only valid when it's not permanent.

Which would of course means the UKs entry into the EEC/EU is not valid.

However it is in fact valid, as is this more recent referendum, because the public were aware what voting Remain/Leave was all about.

How is that poor snowflake, Sarah Olney, today after walking out of that Radio interview?
I thought she was pulled out. Yet another misuse of that "snowflake" word.

Thats original.
Shall we drag yet again through all the remain bullshit?
We are going through it. Pound down, inflation up, growth down, interest rates halved and billions of taxpayer money put tinto private firms to prop up the economy.

Because the supposedly "uncontrolled immigration" is less than the controlled immigration.

All you do is post in a deliberately arrogant manner in order to get a response from a certain section of the forum.

It's called trolling.

There is still a long time until 2020, anything can happen before then. I can see May being deeply unpopular by then, and if any opposition can get its act together, the Tories will be decimated.
If the supreme court ruling goes against against the government, there may be a general election next year and the government will blame the remain camp for frustrating the will of the people.

It would be the nastiest campaign you have ever seen and will probably be the death of the left/centre left for a very long time.

You had better wish, the government wins.

Kind of... it's being observed that Brexiters are shockingly bad losers.

I very much doubt whether parliament acting in the best interests of the country would produce a landslide majority for May and her UKIP lite policies. Even if it did, it would only last as long as the next recession providing Labour has the sense to get rid of Corbyn and choose an electable leader.

But if the Govt wins by establishing Article 50 is reversible you'll end up up with Neverexit. MPs will never approve the A50 deal saying it's not good enough; they're not going against "the will of the people" just making sure we get a good deal from that nasty EU.

Why do we have elections once someone is elected, the people have spoken so there's no need for another one.

Ash is always 'down with the kids' as you put it. Ash most certainly isn't wearing sandals, white socks and cargo shorts. I won't say what I'm 'wearing'. It would be to much for a Sunday arvo mate.

The terrible tories will not want a GE, an election they could well lose. Remainers won't vote for Brexit parties and neither will soft Leavers. Big business won't back the tories either. A weak govt is better for the country. It means it can't just do as it likes.

If the govt lose the supreme court vote they will only have themselves to blame because they have attempted to behave in an undemocratic way/attempting to by-pass parliament. Not a good look for the govt.

Exactly. I am perfectly happy for there to be a vote to decide if we want to rejoin - in 41 years time. Nothing is ever permanent - not even the EU!

There are two reasons why the Tories would win the election - Jeremy Corbyn and Tim Farron!

Between 450 and 470 seats voted leave and a maximum of 200 backed remain. In a general election which side would win?

And if the election had to be called as Lib Dem and Labour peers had blocked Brexit the public would be annoyed at the affront to democracy so it might be even bigger. Cos most remainers respect democracy and the result.

You can't compare a binary ref to a multi-option FPTP GE. Mainstream Remain Tories (about two thirds) won't back a hard right/Brexit Tory party. Some Tory voters will go Kip. Disaffected Labour voters will go Dem. The big winners at a GE could be the Dems. Remember too, big business won't back a hard right/Brexit Tory party. 16 million voted Remain. They won't back Brexit parties. Then there are the soft leavers. Where will they go?

I don't get annoyed at parliamentarians behaving in a democratic fashion, after-all, we don't operate a dictatorship do we...or do we?

Leave. 350m, WWIII etc.
Precisely, the country as a whole voted for leave yet Richmond voted remain, by about 70% if I remember correctly, soit can't be considered as being the same as the country as a whole.
Unless the by election as magically turned it into an analogue for the country as a whole.
Though looking at the by election result it is actually a 'no change'.

Brexit denial at its finest. So when does the NHS get it's 350m?
It doesn't, that was a brexit lie.
