We bought ours today and will decorate it tomorrow once the branches have fully spread.

We opted for a rooted tree this year which will be planted in the garden in January.

I like real trees but am too worried about needle fall to get a tree too early. Nothing worse than being left with bald twigs by Christmas Day. Last year I got a little 3 foot one in a pot and planted it in my garden afterwards. Still looking for something similar for this year.
When we had a real tree when I was a child, my Mum used to spray hairspray on the tree, was told that it stopped the the needles falling, it seemed to work, while some still fell, there was not that many.

You can buy trees that have been grown to stop that happening if you really want a real tree. the problem is getting rid of it after if you do not drive.

You've told us this every year for years, make a note, no need to bang the same gong in 50 weeks time.

As you don't want family time over Christmas, why not look for some voluntary work on Christmas day, help your fellow man (and woman)? That said, people need cheer this time of the year so look for work where you don't have to work face to face with the needy. https://www.herefordshire.gov.uk/adv...d/volunteering
I will make a note to say the same thing this time next year, because it annoy you so much.

Feel shattered already to be honest and we still almost 3 weeks until Christmas Day, so I think I will just want a rest on Christmas Day as I am working on boxing day.
I need a week off, but my next holiday is January.

I also do not get much of a choice about christmas dinner, get nagged if I do not go.

This is the first year I have had a real tree. Pleased with it.
We first got a real tree a couple of years ago, but this is the first time we've gone for a pot-grown one.

We've slightly less space this year after doing some work in the year, so the size we can fit was at the top end of the pot-grown sizes. There's also a space in the garden which has looked a bit bare since a tree blew down in a storm a few years ago. So it made sense to spend a little extra for something that will last well beyond this Christmas and many into the future (assuming no more severe storms!).

I will make a note to say the same thing this time next year, because it annoy you so much.
What a delightful person you are.

I don't think I'll ever understand the mindset of someone who 1) comes into a thread on a specific topic to say how much they hate that topic and; 2) decides to keep posting in that way just to annoy others.

You don't like Christmas. We get it. There is no need to repeat it on nearly every thread on the subject.

I've had free time today, so I've tidied, organised and now I've just put up my tree. I don't usually do it this early, but I thought I might as well do it while I'm in a good mood.

Mine's already up. It's a pre-lit one from Argos so it was very easy.

It was mean more of a tongue in cheek thing, not to be taken seriously, do we have to put a smiley face at the end of everything?

People repeat that they like Christmas on every thread on the subject, so what is the difference?
oh yeah, i forgot, we have to follow the crowd, if we do not like Christmas, we are classed as mean or bah humbugs or something of that nature. i should be out there, spending money on stuff that most people do not want and getting into debt, buying useless Christmas cards that are dumped a few days after, buy a load of food, that most will no doubt end up in the bin and do not forget the booze.

While again the above is said tongue in cheek, you have to admit a lot of it is true.

That is what Christmas seems to be all about and have been for years and if people do not have all that they think they have a bad christmas.

I am not saying don't enjoy Christmas if that is what you want, but why do people spend so much money on it and a lot of these people are in debt for the rest of the year. My Mum loved Christmas and when she was alive I made sure i was there with her to celebrate because she like the family getting together and I used to like that as well. If I was not going to my brothers for Dinner this year, which I will end up doing, I would be going to visit my Dad.

As long as my Dad have somewhere to go, that is all I care about, so he is not alone on Christmas day.

I do what my mum and dad always did - the decorations go up on Christmas Eve while i'm watching/listening to the festival of lessons and carols from King's College, Cambridge on the BBC - they come down on twelfth night or there'll be bad luck for the coming year...

I only like 'real' trees though and they are not easy to find here in southern Spain so I will just dig out my old decorations and put them up around the room along with fairy lights along the mantelpiece above the wood-burner - it looks quite festive and the dogs like lt

I had one of the grown not to drop needles type last year and it was still full when I chucked it out.

The councils (I'm on a border) pick up round my way. It's a densely populated area and I guess it's cheaper than having to collect illegally dumped ones (of which there would be loads as there are loads of people without cars).

I think we used to have someone that came around to pick them up if you wanted them to, but i do not think they do now, it would make sense to, but when have our council ever had sense?

Help, yeah, right still, I'm sure you'll have fun. Ours is up early this year, as we've got multiple visitors all spaced out. Normally we are strictly 12 day people

After letting the branches spread overnight, we decorated our tree on Monday evening.

It's one of the best trees we've ever had. It's a pot-grown Korean Fir and I don't think I've seen a more symmetrical tree. It looks really good from all angles.

It didn't when we first brought it home, however. Which is why it's important to leave a real tree indoors for at least a day before decorating, to let the branches drop and spread.

This some sort of festive innuendo?

I usually put the decorations up the weekend before my birthday, my birthday is this weekend so it should have been last weekend but I was too busy and it felt too early. It'll have to be Friday now.

My parents always used to put up the tree 10 - 14 days before Christmas day, depending on where the weekend fell. Mum reckoned putting it up any earlier was 'common'. I've stuck to that timing ever since.
