Gillian Taylforth is hopeless at acting drunk
Good grief, she was so bad last night. Why did they go to such lengths to bring her back?
She should have stayed dead. |

She is awful but looks younger than her son! Leave the drunk acting to Phil, but no more. Lee looks like he's acting on sleeping pills.

I thought it was fun in a 'Drunk mum' kind of way. Obviously not as good as the pros Shirley and Phil, but good for a laugh as a one off!

She sounded like Catherine Tate's Nan during her drunken ramblings with Ian and Jane.

I was gonna say exactly the same thing - it was uncanny how much she sounded Nan!

![]() Was it Oscar worthy? Of course not but it was perfectly acceptable to me. Quote:

I've made no secret of saying that Kathy should have stayed dead, both before and after revival, but I honestly didn't think it was that bad. Some oeople are just funny, stupid amd embarrassing when drunk and she conveyed that quite well.
Yes, she did sound like Cockney Gran, especially with the "my Ian's a good boy" stuff but Tate c Reated that character precisely because there are people a bit like that in real life and at the end of the day, Kathy is a Cockney Gran! |

One of the worst decisions to bring Kathy back as she simply can't act.
Was she this bad in her original stint? |

Thanks for this thread. I've actually decided I'm gonna hire Gillian to play a fake drunk at my office Christmas party just to see who is more funny - my drunk boss and his dad dancing or Taylforth's drunk 'acting'.

It was alright to me and my mother acts like Kathy when she is plastered. Gillian was having the time of her life when she was acting the drunken scenes.

I get the impression that having brought back Kathy/Gillian Taylforth, they're at a bit of a loss as to what to with her - Hence the silly panto business. If there's one thing EastEnders is not short on right now, it's forceful female characters. in other words, I don't think Kathy is really needed.

DTC clearly didn't know what to do with her but SOC is returning her to the original Kathy that she should have been all along. The panto is just a part of that redemption process, like putting her back in the caff and it being renamed. They still need to build on her relationships with Ian and Ben, though but it's coming along slowly. We have to forget about the wishy-washy Kathy that we endured with all the Gavin rubbish. |

I think the best direction for Kathy is what Pat was by the late 2000's early 2010's. A character who is involved in other peoples storylines everyone knows her and can get advice from her. I would like to see her maybe held hostage by Steven in one of his breakdowns.
