Are you his mum?

This is a far cry from the first series when one of the candidates was already a millionaire (Paul?), but thought winning The Apprentice really would make him the next Sugar.

Courtney makes 8K a year, and lives with mum and dad.
Must admit I've not long watched the first couple of series on iPlayer and the calibre of contestants was so much better.

lol not really.
I mean I'm male so that would be slightly difficult.

I'm just thinking of it from Lord Sugar's perspective. Courtney's win/loss record has to be taken into account since they've spent 10 weeks going through all that.
Fortunately for Courtney he didn't have a disaster at the interviews that have cost previous candidates with great records in tasks. Plus he's an ideas man which tickles Sugar's fancy (thinking back to Tom from series 7).

Courtney has been put into the final because Lord Sugar's choice of business partner is Alana!

LS knows that Courtney cannot pitch well and is very likely to lose the final task, so leaving the field clear for his chosen partner, Alana.

Had LS gone for Frances, Jessica or Grainne then there would have been a fair chance that Alana could have been beaten, which would not have met with LS's aims. So he played safe and chose Courtney!

Alana to win!
I would agree with this .
Plus the girls were running the show this year so I think Sralan felt he's like to see at least one bloke make it to the final two .
There's something about Alana that just screams at me that she is destined for great things . Maybe Sralan sees that , or maybe I'm wrong . From a shaky start she has come on leaps and bounds , and STILL has more to come I think .
That aside , I can't stand Courtney . He's a prat . Even his alleged 'pals' on the "All about the Candidates " show seemed to be taking the piss out of him . Disguised as humour but I sensed undercurrents .

Apart from admitting he lives at home with mum and dad and his "office" is his bedroom.

A more wholesome Nigella? She is certainly photogenic and is very likeable.

Maybe he's thinking cookbooks which seem to be big business at the moment.

Actually I can imagine Alana presenting some kind of TV baking show. Maybe she can be a judge on the Bake Off

I'm not so sure that's a bad thing. Though personally I'd be taking Alana's approach and trying to get my own home I sometimes think that having too much to lose can hold you back from taking risks.

I have spent a lot of time in the Turkish community where business comes first and foremost, they will happily share beds on a shift system in a flat above their shop and then the house comes once they have made money.

Contrast that to someone like myself who already has a house so has to be able to earn enough to service as mortgage as well as any potential rent on a business and it just become too big a gamble.

To be fair he moved back in with his parents to save money and he said he limits himself to living on £8k a year not what he makes. Still wonder why he is there though.

bib - That's because she was the best candidate.

And why should she have been beaten as they have already been fired - and Alana is in the final ?

I wish she would ditch the goth makeup. Makes her look teenage. Also if she's been saving up for a house since she was 16, has she actually saved more year year than house prices have gone up by? Doubtful if she's in the south.

Courtneys products are mainly just emojos on stuff, nothing unique and quite expensive.

I think she's in Wales and prices going up whilst saving is a problem for everyone! It shouldn't stop them saving though!

Ah thanks. I agree save a bit, but if she hasn't saved enough for a deposit after 8 years of saving and is making a profit of 40k on 80k turnover something doesn't sound right.

I think 24 is far too young about signing up for a lifetime of debt for overpriced bricks.

But it's not a phone vote like X Factor, Sugar picks the winner so he can pick whoever he wants, he doesn't need to put his favourite against a weaker candidate.

That's a much better thing to admit than to admit that you have saved huge sums of money that you would rather spend on a house than your business.

No, Courtney pays himself a salary of 8k a year as he puts all the money back into the business. He lives at home so he can dedicate all his time and money to getting the business going. This is all pretty admirable and very much in line with what a young Lord Sugar did to get going.

But surely one of the perks of having a successful business is being able to reap some of the financial rewards. I don't think it's fair to expect every business person to survive on pennies so they can invest everything they have into their work. There has to be some balance.

Besides, Alana has already made it clear that she has invested money into her own business - just not to the extent that this sort of opportunity can bring.

I'd melt if I had to stand up and speak to strangers however if something was so important on my doing it to an acceptable standard then I'd damn well make sure I could do it to that acceptable standard.

I agree with Claude... " Courtney is incredibly boring, pitching is not his strength. There’s no personality, no character, no warmth, no passion coming through ”
Though there is a difference

you can coach someone not to be nervous

It is much more difficult (sometimes impossible) to coach them to be interesting

Did she say she was saving for a deposit I thought she said she was saving for a house, maybe she wants to buy one outright with no mortgage

This really does prove the 10 weeks of tasks are pointless.

Courtney has a business plan Lord Sugar likes (at least it is potentially 'viable') but he sleptwalked through most of the tasks, and his ability to create interest and enthusiasm through a dynamic personality are zero.
It's always been the same, whether the prize is a job or an investment. Someone can be weak but be on the winning side every task so never at risk of firing.
Some of the better performers on tasks must have had useless business plans.
This makes no sense. Task performance has nothing to do with their business plans. A good business plan might save someone from being fired if they are brought back to the boardroom. But if you are on the winning team it can't make any difference as you aren't in the firing line.

How the hell did he make it to the final his interviews were abysmal! Claude was soon feeding him at one point...is it just because LS has experience in what he does?
He wasn't really spoon feeding him. He was trying to draw some passion from him. Things he should have been able to be proud and convincing about. I think it showed Claude respected that commitment even if Courtney couldn't shout about it himself.

His interviews were better than the other four. For example he was put on the spot to come up with an idea and did a pretty good job at short notice.
